Controller for a production homebuilder.
Location: Tampa, FL - On-site
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Compensation: $140k-$160k base, 25% target bonus
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our rapidly growing homebuilding organization. This is a critical finance leadership role responsible for all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. You will play a key role in supporting the company's expansion while maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Manage the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of all transactions
Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Conduct monthly and year-end close processes; identify and resolve discrepancies
Manage the audit process and coordinate with external auditors
Oversee accounts payable and receivable operations; optimize cash flow management
Prepare financial analysis and variance reports for management and ownership
Lead and mentor the accounting team; hire and develop accounting staff as needed
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage tax planning strategies
Implement and maintain accounting systems and software; evaluate process improvements
Support business planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities
Manage property and equipment accounting, including depreciation and disposals
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA or CPA candidate preferred
8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a controller or senior accounting role
Strong experience in homebuilding, construction, or real estate development preferred
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (SAP, QuickBooks Enterprise, xhqgsiq or similar)
Advanced Excel skills; ability to create models and complex analyses
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Clear communication skills and ability to present financial information to non-financial audiences
High integrity and attention to detail
Desired Attributes
Experience managing accounting teams through periods of rapid growth
Familiarity with homebuilding-specific accounting (units, lot accounting, warranty reserves)
Knowledge of construction lending and draw processes
Experience with financial system implementations or upgrades
