Job description
APA Solutions is partnering with an established, family-owned construction company to recruit a hands-on Controller. As the business grows and moves toward second-generation leadership, this position offers a unique opportunity to help shape its financial operations and support its next chapter.
Working directly with ownership, the Controller will lead the accounting function, strengthen financial systems, and provide clear information that supports decisions across the business. We’re looking for someone who enjoys improving processes, developing people, and connecting financial performance to what happens in the field.
What You’ll Do
Lead daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and general ledger activity.
Own the monthly close, reconciliations, and timely, accurate financial reporting.
Monitor cash flow, oversee job costing and work-in-progress reporting, and help leaders understand project profitability.
Partner with project teams to review budgets, billing, change orders, retainage, and costs to complete.
Establish practical financial controls, clear procedures, and consistent accountability.
Improve the use of FOUNDATION construction accounting software and reduce unnecessary manual work.
Guide and develop accounting staff, clarify responsibilities, and establish backup coverage.
Coordinate with outside accountants, banks, and bonding partners.
What You’ll Bring
Progressive construction accounting or similar industry experience, including experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable leader.
Strong knowledge of job costing, work-in-progress reporting, construction billing, and cash flow management.
Demonstrated success improving accounting processes, financial controls, and reporting.
A hands-on approach and the ability to manage daily priorities while implementing improvements.
The communication skills to explain financial information clearly and build relationships with ownership, office staff, and project leaders.
A respectful, practical approach to leading change in a family-owned business.
FOUNDATION software experience preferred.
A degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent relevant experience. CPA a plus.
