Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer II/III to join our client's growing automation team. This role is responsible for designing, programming, testing, commissioning, and supporting advanced automation systems for a wide variety of manufacturing and distribution customers. What You Will Do:
Design, program, test, and implement PLC, HMI, robotic, and industrial automation systems
Develop controls solutions for robotic welding, palletizing, pick-and-place, conveyor, packaging, and material handling applications
Integrate third-party equipment and technologies into automated systems
Assist with the development and maintenance of programming standards, controls documentation, and engineering processes
Identify and develop relationships with strategic suppliers and document available products and services
Support internal machine runoffs and verify all project checklists are completed prior to shipment
Assist with onsite equipment installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer acceptance activities
Collaborate with Project Managers, Mechanical Engineers, Electricians, Customers, and Contractors to ensure successful project execution
Assist in managing project-related issues, change requests, and technical challenges while maintaining positive customer relationships
Ensure project milestones are achieved on time and with minimal rework
Maintain detailed daily reports while onsite, documenting completed work, project status, next-day objectives, and any support or material needs
Complete service work documentation and submit service reports promptly upon completion
What You Will Need to Be Successful:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered
3+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, robotics, or a related engineering field
Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, or similar controls and robotics platforms
Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems
Experience with robotic automation systems and industrial equipment integration
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively interact with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal teams
Valid driver's license and ability to travel
Travel Requirements:
Travel is an important component of this role and typically occurs during equipment installation and commissioning phases.
Travel expected approximately 25%-50% of the time.
Most projects are located within a two-hour driving radius, though some domestic air travel may be required
Typical travel duration ranges from 2-4 days, with some projects requiring a week or longer onsite
Employees generally return home on weekends during extended projects
Mileage reimbursement is provided for personal vehicle use at the current IRS rate
Company credit card provided for business travel expenses
