Cooperative Extension/SARE Program AssistantFort Valley State University (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Cooperative Extension/SARE Program Assistant.Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.Fort Valley State University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution and does not discriminate against applicants, students, or employees on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or marital or veteran status.Job SummaryThe Cooperative Extension/SARE Program Assistant will assist the Project Investigator (SARE)/Program Leader in planning, organizing, and delivering educational programs through the Cooperative Extension System. In addition to helping prepare training materials, presentations, and handouts, the candidate will assist with coordinating workshops, meetings, Field Days and other community events.Major DutiesSchedule meetings and maintain recordsManage program supplies and materialsEvent planning and workshop coordinationAssist with reporting on project activities (virtual and face-to-face)Work EnvironmentWork will take place in an office location - frequentlyWorkdays will take place on weekdays & occasional weekend (conferences and meetings)Working outdoors in various climates, hot and cold - occasionallyPhysical RequirementsThe candidate will frequently be required to work in an office setting. Occasionally, the candidate will be required to work outdoors in agricultural environments in the state of Georgia with temperatures ranging from 40-90° F. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The candidate must have the ability to stand or walk for extended periods during events, workshops, or community outreach activities.Minimum QualificationsStrong communication skillsExperience with workshops, training sessions, or outreach programsKnowledge of the following topics in Sustainable Agriculture Crop production systemsSoil health and conservationForestry/Ecology managementAgricultural TechnologyPest management strategiesRenewable EnergyBasic research and data collection skillsAbility to assist with field trials or demonstration plotsPreferred QualificationsMicrosoft Office or similar software skillsPublic Speaking and Teaching SupportKnowledge of grant-funded projectsThe University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning, as well as the System Office.
