Job description
Corn SorterThe Corn Sorter monitors corn moving along a conveyor line to ensure only high-quality, viable product continues through the production process. Working while standing on ergonomic mats or seated on a stool, you visually inspect each piece of corn and remove any that are discolored, rotten, contaminated, or otherwise unacceptable. You also identify and pull corn that still has husks so it can be sent for re-work and de-husking. This role is hands-on, detail-oriented, and essential to maintaining product quality and safety.ResponsibilitiesMonitor corn on a moving conveyor belt and visually inspect each piece for quality and consistency.Identify and remove corn that appears off, including discolored, rotten, foreign crops, or otherwise unacceptable product, and place it in the discard pile.Pull corn that still has husks and route it to the re-work area for de-husking.Perform a mix of seated and standing work while maintaining focus on the conveyor and product flow.Maintain a clean and organized work area, including basic cleaning and sorting tasks as needed.Assist with general labor and production activities such as packing, bagging, tagging, and quality-related tasks when required.Follow all safety and quality procedures, including proper handling of product and adherence to site rules.Climb stairs as needed to access different areas of the worksite or production line.Remain attentive to potential airborne allergens from corn husks and dust, and work safely in a non–temperature-controlled, dusty environment when required.Comply strictly with the tobacco-free policy, refraining from any use of cigarettes, cigars, vapes, e-cigarettes, chew, dip, or similar products on site.Adhere to break and lunch policies, including remaining on site during paid breaks and only leaving the worksite during unpaid lunch periods.Communicate clearly in English to follow instructions, read signage, and coordinate with team members and supervisors.Support quality control efforts by consistently removing unacceptable product and contributing to overall production efficiency.Essential SkillsAbility to visually inspect product and distinguish colors accurately; must not be colorblind.Ability to stand for prolonged periods while monitoring a moving conveyor belt.Ability to walk and climb stairs as needed in the facility.Capability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail and product quality.Basic general labor and production skills, including packing, bagging, cleaning, sorting, tagging, and quality checks.Ability to speak and read English to understand instructions, safety information, and production requirements.Comfort working in environments where watching a moving belt may aggravate motion sickness and where airborne allergens from corn husks may be present.Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift hours, including availability for 6 days per week with rotating days off.Commitment to strictly adhere to a tobacco-free workplace policy.Ability to pass required background and drug screening processes.Additional Skills & QualificationsNo formal education requirements; candidates without prior industry experience are welcome.Experience in general production, general labor, or quality-related roles is beneficial.Comfort working in dusty, non–temperature-controlled areas and around agricultural products.Reliability in attendance and performance, with the potential to transition into a general operator role.Ability to adapt to different shift schedules after orientation and adjust to training hours as needed.Why Work Here?You join a team-oriented environment where reliable attendance and strong performance are recognized and rewarded with opportunities for advancement, including the potential to move into a general operator role. The primary sorting area is air-conditioned, though some parts of the facility are not temperature-controlled and can be dusty due to corn, husks, insecticides, and related agricultural materials.Shift Hours: approx 12pm-8pm ONLYJob Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Tipton, IN.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
