Correctional Casework Manager

Indiana Women's Prison is a maximum-security facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 700 incarcerated adult females. As the oldest women's correctional facility in the United States, it serves individuals with diverse needs, including pregnant, elderly, youthful, medically complex, and high-profile incarcerated adult females. The facility features the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit, which supports family bonding and re-entry planning. Incarcerated individuals have access to mental health services, substance use treatment, domestic abuse programming, and educational opportunities. Programs focus on rehabilitation and building confidence for life after release. Staff support a safe, structured environment focused on healing and growth.

Role Overview: As a Correctional Casework Manager, you will supervise, train, and review the performance of Correctional Caseworkers. You will also manage a caseload of incarcerated individuals, assessing their risk and needs to develop, implement, and review their case plan.

Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Provide immediate supervision to your Correctional Caseworker team for adherence to policy and procedure through the use of routine CQI assessments.

Supervise, train, coach, and review the performance of correctional caseworkers assigned to the unit team, assess individual strengths and weaknesses, utilize regular evaluations and frequent informal reviews of staff performance in accordance with the standards, guidelines and policies of the Department and State Personnel Department.

Assess each assigned offender's risks and needs utilizing the Individual Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).

Coordinate with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues.

Provide group and individual programming for re-entry and release as required.

Coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders.

Conduct unit orientation for newly received offenders.

Motivate and guide offenders towards positive, prosocial change by using creative approaches to strengthen relationships and reduce environmental risk factors.

Maintain high security standards in the unit and facility.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success: Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

Must test negative on all drug screenings.

Ability to write records of offenders.

Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage the work of the staff.

Ability to establish a working relationship with staff and offenders.

Knowledge and ability to utilize conflict resolution techniques.

You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services.

Complete all mandatory training, including all IRIS and Case Management specific training, DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.

A High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 2+ years of experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care. This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
