Correctional Officer 1 Positions in Ketchikan, AlaskaAre you interested in law enforcement or criminal justice? The Department of Corrections is recruiting for multiple Correctional Officer 1 positions in Ketchikan, Alaska.A Correctional Officer performs skills related to the custody, security, and reformation of prisoners. The incumbent participates in on-the-job training, as well as attending a 6-week Correctional Officer Academy. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a 24-hour security post and will directly supervise inmates.The mission of the Department of Corrections is to promote public safety. Our Division provides secure confinement, access to reformative programs and offender management planning that promotes successful community reentry. You will be the cornerstone to the Department mission through your daily interaction with offenders.Competitive pay package with scheduled raises, health benefits, paid sick leave, vacation and holidays. Leave accrual increases with years of service, 20-year retirement with annuity and deferred compensation plans, paid life insurance.The standard shift is 84-hour workweek, consisting of seven 12-hour days, followed by seven days off, alternating day and night shifts. Ketchikan Correctional Center houses an average of 60 inmates, all custody levels, classifications of prisoners, felon, misdemeanor, male and female inmates.We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:Adaptability: adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.Conscientiousness: Displays a high level of effort and commitment towards performing work; demonstrates responsible behavior.Integrity/Honesty: Contributes to maintaining the integrity of the organization; displays high standards of ethical conduct and understands the impact of violating these standards on an organization, self, and others; is trustworthy.Leadership: Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations.At the time of employment: be 21 years of age and a United States citizen or a United States National; have a high school or home school diploma recognized or certified by a state or a local school district within a state as having met that state's graduation requirement; or have a General Educational Development certificate.Appointment to Correctional Officer 1 is conditional, pending successful completion of a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination.Employees must be willing to work shift assignments and on-call availability may be required.A full criminal history check is required for all applicants.
