COO - OPS - Institutions OperationsCorrectional Sergeant III (S)Position Number: Grade: NC09The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden of Operations, this position provides supervision of subordinate officers and their assigned tasks and activities regarding the custody and welfare of male offenders in a Minimum/Medium/Close custody state correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.Performing various duty assignments with the defined level of work and ensuring 24/7 staffing coverage.Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions.
