Job description
Corrections OfficerCorrections officers for the Miami County Sheriff's Office are responsible for the intake and release and daily observation of inmates. The staff rotates work responsibilities between our two facilities. The "Full-Service Jail", a linear, bar-style jail located in downtown Troy houses higher-classified inmates, while the "Minimum Security Facility", an open, pod-style jail located on N. CR 25A north of the fairgrounds houses the lower-classified, mainly non-violent inmates. We currently operate on 12-hour shifts from 7a-7p and 7p-7a which offers correction officers every other weekend off and the ability to work 7 days in a 14-day period. Corrections officers' main responsibility is the care, custody, and control of all inmates housed in our facilities.Deputies can be assigned to:Control Room OperationsIntake and Release of InmatesPhotographing and fingerprinting inmatesDirect Supervision of up to 60 inmates in one podLog all daily inmate activitiesPossibility of promotion to Corrections Sergeant or LieutenantStarting pay can range between $26.59 and $30.38 an hour after completing all the steps under the current contract.The Miami County Sheriff's Office offers an attractive and competitive fringe benefits package.Health Insurance: Anthem/ CEBCO administers the Health Insurance plan for physicians and hospital services covering the employee, spouse, and children. Candidates who attain a passing score will be placed on the department's eligibility list.
