nDescription

nThe COTA/OTA is responsible for overseeing direct clinical skills, documentation skills, and the compliance to all professional standards. A review of performance will be conducted on a yearly basis. OTA’s will be indirectly supervised by a OTR, will carry out treatment plans as established by the OTR, and will have documentation signed by the OTR.

nEssential Duties:

nnnProvides treatment for the residents who demonstrate disorders of musculoskeletal deficiencies, neurological conditions, balance disorders and transfer/gait deficits. Treatment will only be conducted after a written order is received from the physician.

nnResponsible for the completion of all necessary documentation which includes but is not limited to the following items: ( All documentation will be co-signed by the OTR).

n

nnDaily Treatment Encounter Note (TENS)

n

nnDischarge recommendations

n

nnAll other required forms as designated by the facility..

n

nnResponsible for attending all required facility meetings as directed by DOR, ADOR or supervisor which includes but is not limited to: Medicare Meeting, Care Plan Meeting, Patient/Family Team Meetings, patient staffing meetings and in-services.

n

nnDevelop programs appropriate to the needs of the residents in the facility to assist them in achieving their highest feasible level of functioning.

n

nnAssist the facility in meeting the standards necessary to obtain and maintain state, federal, and other appropriate certifications.

n

nnEmploy and follow all appropriate facility infection control policies and procedures and will respect and follow OBRA Residents Rights Guidelines.

n

nnResponsible for the appropriate scheduling of residents on caseload in addition to all required in-services and meetings.

n

nnResponsible to maintain or exceed productivity levels and will inform the DOR/ADOR if productivity consistently falls below or exceeds level to indicate the need for additional staffing or for assistance in screening and identifying residents in need of OT services.

n

nnPresent themselves in a professional manner at all times including professional conduct, professional communication and appropriate dress while in the facility.

n

nnWill carry out other duties as assigned by the DOR/ADOR or supervisor.

n

nnWill work with safety in mind at all times:

n

nnAssures that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing duties.

n

nnReport all hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor.

n

nnFollow established fire safety policies and procedures.

n

nnAssures that assigned work areas are maintained in a clear, safe, comfortable and attractive manner.

n

nnKeep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects such as: unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.

n

nnParticipate and assist in departmental studies and projects as directed.

n

nnIs aware of the Resident Abuse Law and his/her responsibilities related to such.

n

nnAssist with resident/patient assignment as deemed necessary by DON.

n

n nQualifications

nCompletion of 2 year Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program. Maintain State Licensure

nMust possess the ability to:

nnnRelate to and work with ill, disabled elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility

n

nnFollow written and oral instructions; make independent decisions; accept direction and corrective comments

n

nnDeal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, resident’s, family members, and visitors

n

nnSeek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices

n

nnFunction independently

n

nnBe flexible, and demonstrate personal integrity

n

n
