GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Reports to: Social Services Director
Department: Social Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Status: Full-Time
Position Title: CASAC Position Status: Essential
Home/Life Services Inc. established in 1995, is a community-based, human services organization committed to improving the economic and social health of families impacted by homelessness. Operating from a client centered perspective, Home/Life provides a safe and therapeutic environment that supports the social and economic independence of its families served. By developing and implementing innovative services and programs within our Families with Children's facilities, we provide case management and job counseling, as well as help our families access the economic housing support that allows them to enter and stay in permanent housing.
Under the direction of the Social Services Director, The Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) provides direct clinical care services to clients in need of alcohol and substance abuse counseling
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor include but not limited to:
Administrative:
• Conduct client screening
• Complete comprehensive diagnostic assessments
• Refer clients to outside agencies and treatment programs, when indicated, and facilitate client engagement in treatment programs as referral resources
• Document all clinical work (individual and/or group) into DHS computerized case management system (CARES) in a timely manner or as requested
• Conduct intake and client screening
• Document all clinical work
Leadership and Staff Development:
• Develop and run substance abuse counseling groups
• Work with clients to integrate substance abuse treatment as they transition to housing in the community
• Provide Narcan overdose prevention training to shelter residents and staff
Programmatic Achievement:
• Engage clients in counseling using motivational interviewing techniques, to facilitate harm reduction, readiness for behavior changes and recovery as well as relapse prevention
• Develop relationships with a wide range of community substance abuse treatment providers and
• programs, including residential treatment programs as referral resources
• Collaborate with substance treatment centers to refer clients
• Refer clients to outpatient resources such as anonymous alcohol treatments when moving to permanent housing
• In the event of an emergency, Essential Employees are required to report to work as scheduled
Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based upon assessment of company needs
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Must have CASAC certification
• Must be able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)
• Must have experience and comfortability with using motivational interviewing techniques
• Previous work experience with the homeless population and DHS Cares is preferred
