Job description
Crater / Packer OpportunityA long-established specialty carrier working across New York City and the greater tri-state area is seeking a Crater / Packer to build custom crates and prepare high-value pieces for transport, export and storage. This is craft work on one-of-a-kind objects, not warehouse packing. The company holds Master Rigger and Special Rigger licenses and is a recognized name in crane hoisting, monumental and fine art transport, installation, and climate-controlled storage.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild custom crates around awkward, high-value and irregular pieces, designed around the object, not pulled off a shelf.Pack and prepare work to travel safely by road and for export, including the bracing, cushioning and moisture protection each piece calls for.Select materials and methods appropriate to the object, its value and its destination.Carry out installation work on site, where the same handling judgment applies.Work alongside riggers, drivers and site crews on active job sites, and in galleries, institutions and private residences.Handle client property with the care and discretion the setting demands.Keep the shop organized, safe and ready for the next job.QualificationsHands-on experience crating, packing or fabricating for fine art, antiques, machinery, millwork or another high-value trade. Capability matters more here than length of service.Real woodworking ability — measuring, cutting and building a sound crate from scratch.An eye for how an object should be supported, braced and protected in transit.Comfort on active job sites and in occupied spaces. Installation is part of the work, not an occasional extra.Care, patience and attention to detail. What passes through this shop is often irreplaceable.Reliability above all.Compensation$25.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus the benefits below.BenefitsMedical coverage offered after six months, with the company paying 50% of employee coverage.401(k) with a 4% company match.
