Creative Director

Location: Metro Community Church

Reports To: Lead Pastor

Status: Full-Time

Ministry Area: Worship & Creative Arts

Position Summary

The Creative Director provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all creative elements of ourchurch — including visual branding, media, communications, worship environments, digital content, and production elements. This role champions the church’s identity and mission through compelling storytelling and design while fostering innovation, collaboration, and spiritual impact across all ministries and platforms.

Creative Vision & Strategy

Provide leadership and direction for the overall creative and worship-aligned strategy in support of Metro’s mission, vision, and ministry goals.

Maintain a firm grasp of Metro’s beliefs, values, and strategic direction, ensuring all creative and worship initiatives are theologically aligned and missionally focused.

Partner with pastoral, worship, and ministry leadership to align creative direction, worship programming, and series planning with sermon series, events, and church vision.

Provide leadership and alignment across staff, leadership teams, and volunteers to ensure unified direction and clarity in worship and creative expression.

Oversee the development and execution of creative campaigns, themes, and experiences across services, events, and seasons (e.g., Easter, Christmas, Kick-off Weekend, Fallapalooza, Worship Nights, Found & Free Worship Band, Concerts, Conferences).

Provide overarching leadership for all components of worship programming—including music, audio, video, lighting, creative elements, and series planning—working through worship, production, and creative leaders.

Worship & Service Programming Leadership

Provide leadership and accountability for all details related to the planning and execution of dynamic worship services, events, and ministry programs.

Facilitate creative brainstorm sessions with staff and key leaders to generate fresh ideas and innovative elements for service and event programming.

Collaborate closely with communicators and teaching pastors to ensure a consistent, unified message is expressed across all program elements (music, video, offering moments, next steps, transitions, and storytelling).

Lead and oversee weekly programming meetings to coordinate music, video, technical, and creative elements used in worship services and ministry events.

Establish rhythms of evaluation and critique to maintain a high standard of excellence, assess effectiveness, and monitor the spiritual and engagement impact of worship and service programming.

Musical Direction

Cast vision for and steward the overall musical direction of Metro, ensuring it consistently reflects the church’s vision, values, and ministry goals.

Provide leadership and oversight of the philosophy, systems, and timelines related to the development of dynamic worship and music sets.

Create and manage systems and processes that guide teams in developing a worship series from initial concept through full implementation.

Establish clear goals and accountability that encourage music staff and leaders to network, recruit, and develop musicians and vocalists.

Support and develop worship and music leaders to ensure musical excellence, spiritual depth, and cultural relevance.

Video Direction

Provide leadership for the people, philosophy, systems, and timelines related to video production for worship services and ministry initiatives.

Work closely with video leadership and team members to ensure the creation of creative, effective promotional and in-service video content, including concept development, scripting, production, editing, and post-production.

Set strategy and creative direction for how video is used to communicate Metro’s message to the church and the broader community.

Lead and evaluate creative approaches that leverage video to enhance worship experiences, tell compelling stories, and extend the church’s reach.

Brand & Communications

Provide strategic oversight of the church’s brand across all visual, digital, and verbal platforms.

Lead and support communications and creative leaders who oversee the design and production of promotional graphics, signage, social media assets, email campaigns, print materials, and digital content.

Ensure alignment, quality, and consistency across all communications through clear vision, systems, and accountability.

Provide executive oversight of the church website’s visual design and content strategy, working through designated team leaders to ensure relevance, clarity, and engagement.

Media & Digital Content

Set vision and provide oversight for the creation of video content (sermon visuals, stories, series teasers, live-stream graphics, etc.).

Lead through media and digital team leaders to shape social media strategy and digital outreach that promotes connection and church engagement.

Ensure excellence in Sunday service media, including presentation visuals and multimedia elements, through strong leadership alignment and coordination.

Technical Production Oversight

Provide leadership and oversight of the Production Director and technical teams responsible for audio, lighting, and video technology across Metro.

Ensure effective systems for maintenance, programming, purchasing, and lifecycle management of production equipment and technology.

Support technical leaders in planning and resourcing production needs that align with worship vision, excellence standards, and budget guidelines.

Collaborate with worship and production leadership to ensure creative alignment across event environments, stage design, and audiovisual needs.

Ensure excellence and consistency in both in-person and online worship experiences through strong leadership, planning, and communication.

Team Leadership & Development

Build, lead, and develop creative staff, key leaders, and volunteer leadership teams.

Coach and equip creative, worship, production, and media leaders to manage day-to-day execution, timelines, and volunteer teams.

Facilitate collaborative creative leadership meetings to cast vision, generate ideas, and guide long‑term planning and priorities.

Develop leaders and volunteers within their creative gifts and leadership capacity.

Budget Stewardship

Provide oversight and management of the Creative Arts budget, ensuring alignment with ministry priorities and strategic goals.

Ensure all expense, purchasing, and financial guidelines are clearly communicated and consistently followed by staff and volunteer leaders.

Partner with finance and executive leadership to plan, track, and steward resources with wisdom, accountability, and transparency.

Qualifications

Spiritual & Character

Leads first and foremost from a place of biblical and spiritual calling, seeking God’s direction and biblical alignment in all meetings, decisions, and projects they lead.

Demonstrated ability to understand, articulate, and lead from the church’s theological beliefs, values, and worship philosophy, aligning staff, leaders, and volunteers around a shared mission and vision.

Professional Experience

Minimum 5+ years of experience in creative direction, worship, communications, design, media, or a related field within a church context.

Demonstrated experience leading leaders and managing complex, multi-layered creative and worship environments.

Strong background in digital media, brand strategy, storytelling, and cross‑platform content.

Working knowledge of digital content strategy and social media best practices.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required.
