Job Overview
A law firm seeks a Criminal Defense Attorney for a full-time remote position based in East Lansing, MI. The attorney will manage a caseload of criminal matters, conduct client consultations, and provide ongoing legal advice and guidance throughout each stage of the case.
Duties
Manage a caseload of criminal matters.
Conduct client consultations and provide legal advice.
Review evidence and perform legal research.
Draft motions and briefs.
Negotiate with prosecutors.
Prepare for hearings and trials.
Appear at virtual and in-person court proceedings as necessary.
Maintain detailed case files and records.
Collaborate on case strategy and ensure compliance with standards.
Requirements
Strong foundation in law and criminal law.
Experience in criminal defense law, including pre-trial, trial, and post-conviction matters.
Advanced legal research skills.
Active license to practice law in relevant jurisdiction(s).
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
Ability to manage multiple cases remotely.
High ethical standards and sound judgment.
Experience with remote work technologies.
5+ years of experience in criminal defense practice preferred.
Education
Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
Certifications
Active state bar membership in good standing.
Skills
Legal research and issue spotting.
Motion practice and brief writing.
Courtroom presentation.
Client-centered representation.
