Job description

Join Duke Department of Anesthesiology!

The Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking outstanding Critical Care Anesthesiologists to join one of the nation's premier academic critical care programs. We are recruiting physician leaders who are passionate about advancing patient care, education, research, innovation, and the future of perioperative medicine.

Faculty appointments will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Candidates should be board-certified/board-eligible in Anesthesiology and fellowship-trained in Critical Care Medicine.

Why Duke?

The Duke Division of Critical Care Medicine offers a unique opportunity to practice across the continuum of perioperative and critical illness care within one of the nation's leading academic health systems.

Faculty have the flexibility to develop careers aligned with their interests across:

Quaternary academic ICUs at Duke University Hospital, including cardiovascular, surgical, trauma, and neurosciences critical care.

Community medical/surgical critical care throughout Duke University Health System.

Tele-ICU, helping lead one of Duke Health's rapidly expanding virtual critical care program.

Operating room anesthesiology, with opportunities across multiple adult anesthesiology subspecialties based on individual interests and qualifications.

Perioperative medicine, including preoperative evaluation and optimization, prehabilitation and nutrition programs, enhanced recovery pathways, and post-surgical/post-critical illness recovery clinics.

Integrated Academic Mission

Our faculty co-lead the Duke Critical Care Collaborative, a multidisciplinary learning health system that brings together physicians, advanced practice providers, implementation scientists, informaticians, analysts, and operational leaders to accelerate innovation, improve quality and safety, and translate evidence into practice across Duke Health ICUs.

Faculty are supported in developing careers in clinical investigation, implementation science, population health, quality improvement, medical education, digital health, health system innovation, and leadership.

Faculty Development

Duke is deeply committed to developing future academic leaders. Faculty benefit from outstanding institutional and departmental mentorship, leadership development, educator training, promotion support, and programs such as Duke Anesthesiology's Academy for Building Leadership Excellence (ABLE) program, along with numerous School of Medicine faculty development opportunities.

The Department of Anesthesiology offers a competitive compensation package recognizing both clinical excellence and academic achievement, together with outstanding benefits including retirement contributions, CME support, relocation assistance, tuition benefits, and comprehensive health coverage.
