nThe Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist works under the supervision of an Anesthesiologist to provide safe and effective anesthesia to patients in either an OR setting, procedure room or MRI setting. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served across the lifespan. This position may work shifts ranging from 8-hours to 24-hours.
nEssential Duties and Responsibilities
nnnAdminister general and regional anesthesia under the supervision of an anesthesiologist according to delineation of privileges.
n
nnParticipate in the pre and postoperative evaluation and management of patients.
n
nnAssist in the care and maintenance of supplies and equipment used in administering anesthesia care.
n
nnRespond to emergencies related to airway management and resuscitation.
n
nnParticipation in Albany Medical College’s Center for Nurse Anesthesiology program by participation in didactic and clinical teaching and evaluation of students.
n
nnAssist in the maintenance of hospital procedures, policies, safety regulations, and program objectives.

nnInterview patients to obtain informed consent.
n
nnOther duties as required by the Chief Nurse Anesthetist, the Chairman, Dept. of Anesthesiology, or the Director of Operating Room Anesthesia.

nnAdheres to the policies and procedures of the Albany Medical Center.

n nQualifications
nnnGraduate of school approved by council on Certification of Nurses Anesthesia Educational programs. - required
n
nnCRNA - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - required
n
nnRN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure - required
n
nnCurrently certified by the NBCRNA - required
n
n nMust be able to perform the essential functions of the position in a clinical environment, including, but not limited to, standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Requires sufficient visual, auditory, and manual dexterity abilities to assess patients, provide direct patient care, operate medical equipment, and complete documentation.
