Job description
School Crossing Guard$15/hr, One hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoonPosition Objective: Controls traffic at crossing points for school children in pedestrian lanes; assists and protects children while they cross the street.Essential Functions:Uses STOP sign, stops traffic and escorts or supervises children crossing streets at intersectionsMaintains surveillance of children walking or playing near street and warns them when necessaryReports accidents or unusual traffic incidents to school authorities or policeAssists children who are lost, injured or in need of assistanceIs aware of and enforces school safety standards at all timesMaintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulationsAdditional Functions:Other duties as assignedQualifications:Must be 21 years of ageCompetencies:Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, students, parents, and the general publicAbility to interact with children in a positive and nurturing mannerIs self-directed and works without direct supervisionKnowledge of traffic rules and safety regulations pertaining to school crossingAbility to read, write and speak the English languageUnderstanding of school, district, and state rules and regulations regarding school operationsWorking Conditions:Mental Demands: calculating, comparing, evaluation, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing, and presentingPhysical Demands: bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuityEnvironmental Conditions: The work is performed primarily outdoors
