Custodial Services SupervisorBrooklyn Navy Yard - Brooklyn, NY 11205Salary Range $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 Salary/year Position Type Full TimeDescriptionJob Title: Custodial Services SupervisorEmployment Status: Full-time, Non-ExemptDepartment: Property ManagementReports To: Senior Manager, Custodial ServicesThe Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow.The Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of frontline custodial staff. The Custodial Services team maintains the cleanliness and appearance of BNY facilities, creating a safe, welcoming, and hygienic environment. This role is critical in fostering a motivated and productive team and ensuring all staff complete tasks efficiently.Areas of ResponsibilityManage a team of 15+ laborers, mentoring and providing staff with training and professional development opportunitiesSupport the Custodial Services Manager with administrative tasks & facility initiativesDelegate tasks and monitor productivity, issue janitorial supplies and equipmentManage staff schedules, maintain timekeeping and personnel recordsResolve employee and tenant complaints, concerns, and conflictsConduct daily building walk-throughs and complete facility inspection reportsConduct daily checks of maintenance closets and equipment for safety and cleanlinessCoordinate & support Yard-wide special events (upwards of 250 per year), including event set-up and break-downLift & move furniture, machinery, and other heavy equipment (upwards of 8,000 pieces moved per year)Provide hands-on support in urgent situations. i.e., snow removal, leaks, outages, etc.Ensure the general safety of daily operations and give immediate attention to hazardsPerform other job-related duties as assignedThe above duties and responsibilities are not intended to limit specific duties and responsibilities of this position. Effective at managing & developing a teamAbility to read and decipher floor plans, understanding various layouts (conference, theater, cocktail, etc.)Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Excellent oral and written communications skills. Must be able to effectively respond to the needs of employees, tenants, and visitorsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsStrong asset management skillsAbility to maintain a positive, productive atmosphere in a fast-paced environmentHigh degree of initiative, self-motivation and ability to motivate othersAbility to develop and implement effective staff training proceduresMust be able to lift/move 50+ poundsQualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent required4+ years of facility management/janitorial experience2+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in a Unionized environmentValid driver's license requiredEquipment repair and maintenance knowledge preferredMust be able to be on call outside of the standard schedule as needed for emergencies
