Duneland School Corporation Shift LeaderA Duneland School Corporation Shift Leader is required to clean, sanitize and maintain corporation properties in a safe and lawful manner. The Chesterton High School (CHS) Shift Leader has a highly visible role in the daily operations and assistance of the custodial services department. The Shift Leader is responsible for maintaining supplies, and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. The CHS Shift Leader will interact with individuals both inside and outside of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times. The Shift Leader may be required to work in other Duneland School Corporation facilities.Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Principal responsibilities and duties include responding to requests for information and services in a prompt, efficient and friendly manner, providing exceptional service to all students, community members, teachers, co-workers, and other staff members, observing safety and security procedures, operating, maintaining and sanitizing equipment in compliance with local, state, federal and OSHA standards, conducting shift meetings, processing building use forms, coordinating cleaning areas with other Shift Leaders, communicating with the Custodial Manager, conducting inspections in accordance with directives from immediate supervisor, conducting cleaning of areas in accordance with local, state, federal and OSHA standards, repairing lockers, providing minor building maintenance and repair, assisting Grounds Services department with grass cutting, landscape maintenance and snow removal, scheduling and participating in group and independent training, promoting and participating in ongoing safety and informational training, setting up, monitoring and providing service for special events arranged by Duneland School Corporation, maintaining daily contact with the building principal regarding building activities or schedule changes, documenting attendance issues and forwarding along with payroll forms to Custodial Manager, accepting delegated authority, providing overall property clean up, assisting with custodial services provided throughout the Corporation, assisting with daily delivery of bulk food products and supplies, assisting the Food Service Department in product stocking and storage, monitoring performance of custodial staff members assigned to Shift Leader's site, responsible for maintaining a positive and productive work environment, working with Head Custodian, Custodial Manager, Director of Facilities and Human Resources office to resolve employee problems and complaints, and performing other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.Knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics include demonstrating interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships both inside and outside the corporation, ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work, ability to maintain high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation, ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, ability to multi-task with attention to detail, proficiency in the use of all Custodial Services equipment, demonstrating organizational and time management skills, recognizing, analyzing and offering solutions to problem situations related to daily work, and ability to remain calm and professional during times of high stress. All Custodial Service employees must transfer to other Dune land properties with impromptu notice.Special requirements include working in facilities with a controlled temperature environment, maintaining a working knowledge of all custodial equipment, a basic knowledge of operations concerning computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers, working an average of 8 hours per day with a 30 minute lunch period, summer hours will be adjusted as per the Superintendent to assure adequate coverage throughout the summer period, evening, weekend and holiday activities will be scheduled as necessary, frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear, occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds, and specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability.
