Job description
Custodian PositionCustodian will be responsible for cleaning the building, removing debris, and keeping all areas of the school neat and tidy. General tasks include: vacuum and buff floors, shampoo carpets, empty trash receptacles, and replace lining of trash cans. Candidate should possess a knowledge of, or willingness to learn, proper cleaning techniques, and must be able to take direction but also show initiative, work with little supervision or instruction, understand what needs to be done without constant follow-up, use good time management skills, have good interpersonal skills, and demonstrate respect for Christian values, other employees, students, parents and leadership.Key Areas of ResponsibilityGeneral Manage inventory of cleaning and maintenance itemsMaintain janitor office and closets in a clean, organized and safe mannerJanitorial Cleaning and sanitizing floors and baseboards by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming themSteam-clean or shampoo carpetsStrip, seal, finish, and polish floorsFollow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors or fixturesService, clean, and supply restroomsTrash removal from classrooms, administrative offices and outside receptaclesClean and polish furniture and fixturesClean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegeesMix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specificationsMonitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not createdMove furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucksSet up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, etc. to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetingsClear debris from groundsRemove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snow blowers and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicalsGeneral cleaning, dusting, and vacuuming (cleaning spills, unexpected messes, etc)Identify and report possible repairs.Other routine maintenance duties as assignedCommunication Notify manager concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systemsNotify manager of need for supplies and equipment for cleaning dutiesRequirementsHigh school diploma or GEDPositive attitudeSix months or more related experience - basic knowledge of cleaning productsAnnual Asbestos Training/CertificationAbility to follow oral and written instructions and to prioritize multiple tasksAbility to work effectively with a team and independently as needed to support the group effortSensitivity to the ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the student bodyGood communication and interpersonal skillsEffectively communicate with students, parents, school staff, and others in a calm and respectful manner at all times
