Custodian IIOur Custodial Staff members are an essential part of Adams State University's success. Maintaining the cleanliness of our facilities is crucial to providing a safe, comfortable, fully functional, and aesthetically pleasing campus environment that is conducive to teaching, learning, living, and creating the best possible experience for our students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus.This Position consists of supervising custodial units and performs custodial duties as needed to ensure clean, safe, sanitary, well maintained buildings to meet University customer needs and to protect the assets of Adams State University which further enhance the University's ability to achieve its objectives in instruction, research and public service. This position has an essential service designation (required to be on duty to perform essential/emergency services of agency without delay and/or interruption. This position exists to assist the General Laborer III in delivery of custodial services to building occupants by serving in the capacity of a work leader directing and monitoring the work of a crew of up to 15 Custodian I's. Other specific duties of the Custodian II are:Operate and maintain buffers, burnishers (battery and cord operated), automatic floor scrubbers, carpet extractors and backpack vacuums. Evaluate condition of floor coverings to determine appropriate procedures to be used in their care and maintenance. Perform specialized floor maintenance including strip and refinish, scrub and recoat, and burnishing operations on hard surface floors and stain removal and extraction operations on carpeted floors.Perform routine custodial tasks including sanitizing of restrooms, removing trash and recyclables in all areas of buildings, dusting, window and entry glass cleaning and vacuuming and mopping of floors in classrooms, laboratories, offices and common areasAs a Supervisor this position will:Assign tasks and monitor the work of a custodial crew of up to 15 Custodian I's.Assist General Laborer III with monitoring work processes, tracking employee attendance timekeeping and performance evaluations, monitoring equipment utilization and maintenance, ordering and stocking consumable supplies and providing input on individual employee performance for evaluation purposes.Provide safe access to buildings and building security through snow removal and building unlocking and locking servicesThis position must understand MSD Sheets, proper use of cleaning chemicals, i. e. water, natural soaps, synthetic detergents/surfactants, solvents, acid, alkaline cleaners, etc. The use of these chemicals requires proper safety precautions and knowledge of various chemical hazards. Position may include use, handling and exposure to hazardous material through the use of custodial cleaning supplies and chemicals and ice melt.Residency Requirement:This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.Class Code & Classification Description:D8B2XX Custodian IIMinimum Qualifications: Experience Only:One (1) year of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this positionSubstitutions: None. A successful candidate will demonstrate responsible professional conduct at all times; will be punctual and observe scheduled work hours; will not abuse leave and will follow call-in procedures. The successful candidate will also follow safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment, when required. Successful Applicants must:Effectively communicate with campus faculty and staff.Be willing to work different shifts (day and/or night), including weekends and Holidays.In this position you will be required to exert or lift in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. for force constantly. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, handling, pushing, pulling and reaching.In this position you will be required to withstand exposure to dust and fumes associated with cleaning agents and custodial work.In this position you will be required to withstand exposure to adverse weather while performing snow removal duties in front of building entry/exit ways as needed.Note: Although this position is non-exempt for FLSA, it is a condition of employment at Adams State University to agree to receive compensation time in lieu of overtime pay.Special RequirementValid and unrestricted State of Colorado driver's license (Please Provide a copy with your application)Preferred QualificationsExcellent Customer Service skillsExperience in a higher education setting (University or Community College)Experience working eventsEffectively communicate with campus faculty and staff.Be willing to work different shifts (day and/or night), including weekends and HolidaysEssential Services Designation (Required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay or interruption.)
