Job description
Custodian IIStarting date: September 21, 2026. Initial assignment: Bartlett Elementary School. Hours to be worked: 20hrs/week, 4hrs/day, 5 days/week, 256 days year, with 5 paid holidays. Shift: 3:00pm - 7:00pm. Range of pay: $19.58 to $24.37, depending on experience. General requirements: General custodial experience preferred.QualificationsHigh school degree or equivalent preferredCustodial experience preferredPhysically able to lift heavy objects, with assistance if requiredAbility to understand oral and written instructions and to work both independently and with a teamAbility to operate all tools and custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, floor washers, snowblowers, etc.Ability to work on ladders and lifting devices within safety protocolsPerformance ResponsibilitiesMaintain appearance and cleanliness of interior and exterior of each assigned building.Empty trash receptacles in each assigned building, transfer to town approved bins and place town bins in pickup location.Perform procedural tasks to ensure a clean and sanitary environment in assigned building.Receives and stores supplies and equipment. Ensure adequate levels of supplies throughout building.Set and reset classrooms and common areas before and after activities, as required, including but not limited to community events and public use of building. Tasks include setting up tables chairs, and bleachers for school/athletic functions.Frequently monitor and assess all surfaces for safety and cleanliness. Remove dirt, debris, snow and ice from all areas for entry and egress as well as designated paved areas and rooftops that the district is responsible to maintain. Treat surfaces for safe entry and exit.Perform repairs of a minor or routine nature in and around building. Responsible for replacement of light bulbs, full ceiling tiles, painting, minor repairs/maintenance, gym floor sanding/finishing, cleaning of lockers and replacing filters.Monitor performance of equipment (such as autoscrubbers, vacuums, ride on equipment, burnisher, etc.) and custodial tools. Perform basic preventative maintenance. Report non- routine issues to Head Custodian or Facilities Director/Supervisor.Performs basic security functions in assigned buildings, including unlocking exterior doors and locking all doors and windows, turning off lights and other utilities and appliances when not in use. Maintain security, and monitor and limit access to building in accordance with established policies and procedures, and alert Principal and Facilities Director of any concerns or problems with after-hour facility usage.Participate in annual summer restoration of building spaces which includes the removal of all furniture and supplies from each room to prepare for restoration tasks.Report fire, safety and other unsafe conditions and unauthorized items to Facilities Director/Supervisor.Perform monthly inspections of all items on safety checklist. Report deficiencies to Head Custodian.Must be available for emergencies, or additional work and/or overtime, as required.Maintain effective relations with building staff, students and the public. Ensure expectations of building Administration is supported. Maintain confidentiality of non-public school district information.Performs other duties, as assigned.
