Custodian PositionExcellence Community Schools (ECS) is a Charter Management Organization (CMO) supporting schools in the Bronx, NY and Stamford, CT. Our programs are based on a proven, nationally recognized model, which originated in our flagship school, the Bronx Charter School for Excellence, a National Blue Ribbon School.Our schools prepare young scholars to compete for admission to and succeed in top public, private, and parochial high schools by cultivating their intellectual, artistic, social, emotional, and ethical development. We accomplish this by offering a challenging and rigorous academic curriculum, which at the earliest of grades has an eye towards college preparation. This individual must be committed to excellence, lead by example, and see collaboration as a key component of success.All Custodians are responsible for ensuring that a clean, safe, and healthy environment exists for scholars, employees, and visitors. The position will be based in the Bronx, NY, and will entail cleaning the building facilities, maintenance, repair, storage, and operational needs.Responsibilities:Perform major repairs, fixing, and plastering of walls, ceilings, floors, doors, fixtures, and other building surfacesRepair, patch, resurface, and finish plaster, drywall, and masonryDiagnose maintenance and structural issues and complete repairs independentlyPerform preventative maintenance to ensure building systems and surfaces remain in good condition.Being a team lead and supporting Porters.Perform routine custodial duties including cleaning, sanitizing, and waste removalOperate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipmentIdentify safety hazards and ensure all repairs meet safety and building standardsCoordinate with supervisors or outside contractors as neededSet up and break down rooms or work areas as requiredPerforming other duties as assigned.Requirements:High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) required.Minimum of 1 year of experience in a public school setting required.Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances is required.Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components required.Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices required.Attention to detail and conscientiousness required.Ability to lift 50lbs required.Ability to speak English required.Compensation & Benefits:Starting Salary $65,000.
