Job description
DefinitionUnder general supervision performs work of routine cleaning and maintaining city facilities, and moving furnishings and equipment; and performs related work as required. This position averages about 29 hours per week. Work Schedule Monday - Thursday: 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Friday: 6:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Benefits: PAID LEAVE: Accruals are earned based on the actual hours worked and are credited on the second pay check of each November. IPERS: A benefit plan that provides members with a monthly lifetime retirement benefit based on a formula including the employee's earnings and years of service. DISCOUNTED CLASSES: All City employees receive 20% off Park Amenities, including: adult and youth sports leagues, camps, theatre classes, and even shelter and facility rentals.Examples Of DutiesCleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including offices, restrooms, common areas, and other facilities, using appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment. Performs routine maintenance tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and emptying trash receptacles. Ensures that all areas are free of safety hazards, reporting any maintenance issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel. Assists with the setup and breakdown of events, meetings, and activities as needed, including moving furnishings and equipment. Follows established procedures for handling and disposing of waste and hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations. Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, notifying management when supplies need to be replenished. Adheres to established safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others. Maintains absolute confidentiality of information, situations and materials encountered on the job. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.QualificationsOne year of custodial or building maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the required work in this position. Must pass a background check and physical as prescribed by the City of Davenport.Knowledge and SkillsWorking Knowledge of: Cleaning methods and procedures. The use and care of cleaning materials and equipment. Working Skill in: Understanding oral and written instructions. Performing routine custodial duties. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with building tenants. Inventory control and storage of cleaning supplies and equipment.
