Job description
Custodian IThe City of Springfield is seeking a custodian to perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance for City Hall. This position works independently in secure office spaces and buildings that are closed to the public. The position includes generous medical package to include $1,200 health reimbursement account, sick leave, vacation, holidays, gym membership, and participation in Oregon Public Employee's Retirement (PERS). Typically works Monday – Friday, 9am-6pm, with occasional evenings/weekends during events.Summary of Essential Duties:Cleans floors, carpets, windows, walls and fixturesVacuums and steam cleans carpetsWaxes, strips, buffs and polishes floorsCleans and disinfects restroom facilities and replenishes supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towelsResponds to urgent situations, such as spills, that require quick actionOrders cleaning supplies and equipment and maintains an appropriate stock at all timesUses various cleaning agents, chemicals, and solvents in a safe mannerOperates and maintains equipment such as vacuums and floor waxing machineCollects and removes trash from a building or spaceMakes minor repairs as necessary, including tasks such as changing light bulbs and fixing leaksNotifies supervisor when major repairs are requiredMaintains a level of security in a building, such as locking doors, storing keys, and using access codes for restricted areas and roomsPerforms outdoor upkeep as necessary, including picking up leaves, shoveling snow, power washing, and maintaining entrances and walkwaysSet-up and take-down of meeting rooms and eventsEducation/Experience: The City will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. Such a way to meet minimum qualifications could include: High school diploma or GED, and 1-2 years of custodial experience or other relevant experience. Preferences may be given based on qualifications and experience: Previous experience using floor waxing machine Previous experience using industrial cleaning chemicals and material handling Previous experience preparing work orders and requestsPhysical Requirements: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Stand for long periods of time in order to perform cleaning tasks Repeatedly bend or stoop to clean Climb ladders Wear personal protective equipment, as necessarySelection Process: The selection process will include: interviews, reference checks, background check; as well as, post-offer (conditional offer) physical abilities certification. Top candidates will be invited to interview. As a part of our selection process, it will be necessary for candidates to provide the names and email addresses of up to five professional references (including two managers) that can provide information on work performance.
