CustodianCustodian (Tuesday-Saturday) 8 Hours (11:00am-7:30pm) Tuesday-Friday (11:00am-7:30pm) and Saturday (Day Shift) LOCATION: Churchill High School REPORTS TO: Building Supervisor DATE AVAILABLE: Immediate Opening DISTRICT OVERVIEW: Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 13,300 students pre-K post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, twist, push, pull, sit, and stand for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have the ability to push and/or lift up to and including 50 pounds, such as boxes, bags, equipment, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as reading handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Physical Requirements: General Duties: Daily cleaning and upkeep of assigned building sections. Completion of various maintenance tasks. Physical and Operational Responsibilities: Must be able to bend, twist, push, pull, sit, and stand for long periods of time. Dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning glass, maintaining soap, hand towels, and toilet paper dispensers. Climbing ladders to access rooftops, change lighting fixtures, ceiling panels, and painting. Crouching and maneuvering through utility tunnels. Lifting and securing lunch tables. Collecting, handling, and disposing of trash inside and outside. Setting up and breaking down chairs, tables, risers, and other equipment for events and activities. Performing outdoor grounds maintenance, including snow removal and lawn care. Operating commercial equipment such as: Tractors Snow throwers Weed whips Using floor care equipment, including: Riding automatic scrubbers. Manual swing buffers. Loading and unloading supply shipments. Transporting stock and supplies throughout the facility. Moving furniture in and out of rooms and across the building. Other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor.Role-Specific Notes: Custodians are assigned specific sections of the building for daily/nightly cleaning and maintenance. Cognitive Requirements: Attention to Detail Identifying spills, damage, or safety hazards in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeterias. Ensuring proper sanitation in high-contact areas (e.g., desks, doorknobs, water fountains). Following district-specific cleaning protocols, especially during flu season or outbreaks. Memory and Routine Recall Remembering daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning schedules. Knowing which classrooms or areas require special attention Retaining knowledge of school layout, emergency exits, and storage locations. Problem-Solving and Adaptability Responding quickly to unexpected messes or maintenance issues (e.g., broken toilets, flooding). Adjusting cleaning strategies based on student activities or weather conditions. Coordinating with teachers and staff to avoid disrupting learning. Because of the nature of this work, a spirit of cooperation with all others including members of the general public and school community, is essential.
