Cybersecurity Engineer / Security Operations
Location: Huntersville, NC (Crowders Creek Area)
Schedule: Hybrid – 4 days onsite / 1 remote, with potential to move to 3 onsite / 2 remote
Travel: Less than 20%
Compensation: $85,000–$115,000
Employment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire, with potential for earlier conversion

Position Summary
Our client is seeking a well-rounded Cybersecurity Engineer / Security Operations professional with a strong IT infrastructure or networking background and a security-focused mindset. This is not a traditional SOC role; the position supports cybersecurity across infrastructure, networking, cloud, endpoints, identity, compliance, and client environments. MSP or consulting experience is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Support and secure client infrastructure, networks, cloud environments, and endpoints.
Administer firewalls, VPNs, access controls, and network security solutions.
Conduct security assessments, vulnerability management, and remediation activities.
Support backup validation, disaster recovery, and incident response initiatives.
Assist with identity and access management, including MFA solutions.
Participate in client onboarding, security evaluations, and security reviews.
Support CMMC, GRC, risk management, and audit/compliance initiatives.
Partner with engineering teams and clients to improve security operations and controls.
Maintain security documentation and contribute to continuous improvement.
Required/Preferred Technical Experience
Infrastructure: Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, Microsoft environments, network administration.
Network Security: Firewalls such as WatchGuard, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco, or Check Point; VPNs and network segmentation.
Identity: Cisco Duo, Okta, Microsoft Authenticator, and MFA technologies.
Cloud: Azure and/or AWS, cloud administration, and hybrid infrastructure.
Security Tools: Endpoint security, Check Point Harmony, Barracuda, KnowBe4, vulnerability management, Commvault, and backup/recovery technologies.
Compliance: CMMC, GRC, security controls, risk management, assessments, and audit support.
Preferred Qualifications
MSP or cybersecurity consulting experience.
Experience supporting multiple clients or business units.
Exposure to penetration testing, red team exercises, or incident response.
Familiarity with Zero Trust, SSE/SASE, Zscaler, or emerging AI security technologies.
Strong client-facing, communication, troubleshooting, and prioritization skills.
