Practice Areas: Civil Litigation, Probate, Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Estate-Related Disputes
Compensation: Hourly rate
Firm: Baker Law Group
About the Opportunity
Baker Law Group is seeking an experienced Dallas-area Of Counsel Attorney to support our growing Texas practice. We are looking for a Texas-licensed attorney with experience in civil litigation, probate, or both who can accept referred matters and provide dependable local representation in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
This is a flexible, nonemployee relationship designed for an attorney who may already maintain an independent practice or other professional commitments but is interested in receiving additional work from a growing multi-state law firm.
The attorney may handle complete matters or provide support on selected cases based on experience, availability, and firm needs. Because local court appearances are an important part of the role, candidates should be based in or reasonably accessible to the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
What You’ll Do
Responsibilities may include:
Handle Texas civil litigation and probate matters referred by Baker Law Group
Evaluate new matters and provide practical recommendations regarding strategy, scope, and potential resolution
Manage assigned cases independently while coordinating with Baker Law Group attorneys and support staff
Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, settlement documents, and court filings
Conduct and defend depositions
Represent clients at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and other court proceedings
Appear in Dallas-area courts for routine and substantive matters
Handle contested and uncontested probate proceedings
Assist with estate administration, heirship proceedings, guardianships, and conservatorships
Support disputes involving estates, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, real property, and business interests
Communicate clearly with clients regarding strategy, deadlines, costs, and next steps
Maintain accurate and timely billing entries through the firm’s practice-management system
Monitor client retainers and help ensure that matters remain financially current
Work collaboratively with Baker Law Group attorneys, paralegals, and administrative teams
Types of Matters
The attorney may assist with matters involving:
Business and commercial disputes
Contract litigation
Real estate and property disputes
Construction-related matters
Partnership and ownership disputes
Pre-litigation demands and negotiations
Will contests
Heirship proceedings
Guardianship and conservatorship
Fiduciary and beneficiary disputes
Estate-related real estate or business issues
Experience in both litigation and probate is preferred, but Baker Law Group will consider an attorney with substantial experience in one area and the willingness to assist with related matters.
What We’re Looking For
Strong candidates will have:
Meaningful civil litigation and/or probate experience
Familiarity with Texas court procedures and filing requirements
The ability to attend in-person proceedings in the Dallas–Fort Worth area
Experience independently managing legal matters
Strong drafting, legal analysis, negotiation, and advocacy skills
Sound judgment and practical problem-solving ability
Strong client communication and expectation-management skills
The ability to explain the value and cost of legal services clearly
Reliable responsiveness and attention to deadlines
Comfort working within an of counsel relationship
The ability to collaborate without requiring substantial day-to-day supervision
Work and Compensation Structure
This is a flexible of counsel relationship rather than a traditional full-time position. Work volume may fluctuate based on client demand, attorney availability, and the types of matters received by the firm.
Compensation is based on an hourly rate, subject to the terms of the final agreement. The attorney will have visibility into time entries, invoices, client payments, and account status through the firm’s systems.
The attorney will be expected to enter time promptly, communicate with clients when retainers require replenishment, and pause work when directed if an account is not current. Baker Law Group provides marketing, administrative, billing, and operational infrastructure while the attorney provides legal services and helps manage the assigned client relationship.
Why Partner with Baker Law Group?
This opportunity offers:
Referred work without the attorney independently funding the firm’s marketing
Administrative and billing support
Access to Baker Law Group’s legal and support teams
Flexibility to accept matters based on experience and availability
Opportunities to develop a long-term relationship with a growing multi-state firm
The ability to expand a current practice without immediately taking on a full-time position
