Job description
Registered Dental AssistantNorthern New MexicoThe modern term Apache excludes the related Navajo people. However, the Navajo and the other Apache groups are clearly related through culture and language and thus are considered Apachean. Apachean peoples formerly ranged over eastern Arizona, northwestern Mexico, New Mexico, and parts of Texas and the Great Plains. The Apachean tribes were historically very powerful, constantly at enmity with the Spaniards and Mexicans for centuries. The first Apache raids on Sonora appear to have taken place during the late 17th century. The U.S. Army, in their various confrontations, found them to be fierce warriors and skillful strategists. The Jicarilla Apache Nation is located in the scenic mountains and rugged mesas of northern New Mexico near the Colorado border. There are approximately 2,755 tribal members, most of whom live in the town of Dulce. Nomadic in nature until just before European contact, the Jicarilla tribe established trade with Taos and Picurís pueblos. They wandered and traded as far east as Kansas until they settled deep in the northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the mid-1720s. The Jicarilla Apache Nation is world-renowned for its hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and hiking opportunities. The tribe maintains Horse Lake Mesa Game Park, the largest single elk enclosure in the country at 14,500 acres. Black bears and mountain lions roam freely throughout the nation. Dulce, New Mexico is located right on the Colorado-New Mexico border. It's a quaint town, with a population just under 3,000. It's the tribal headquarters of the Jicarilla Apache Reservation. It's also the alleged location of a secret underground alien base which is not a story related to this position. Life in Dulce offers a rural feel with a very affordable cost of living.Responsibilities:Dental Assisting services to include, but not limited to:Following all infection control and OSHA protocols in line with JSU Dental Department policyProtecting all patient health information in line with JSU & HIPAA policiesProviding dental chairside assistance with all routine dental proceduresPreparing patient for dental procedure to be performedProper cleaning and disinfection of dental operatories as per JSU Dental policyPreparing dental operatory with appropriate instruments and materialsUpdating patients' medical history and other forms and medical history in Dentrix.Updating patients' Dentrix notes as directed by dentistsPositioning and exposing dental radiographsApplying topical fluoride for patients as directed by dentistProviding toothbrush prophylaxis to pediatric patients as directed by dentistTaking alginate dental impressionsPerforming routine dental laboratory procedures – fabricating dental models and custom traysPreparing dental laboratory prescriptions per dentist instructionsMaintaining sundry supplies in dental operatorySterilization of dental instrumentsProviding patient education – oral hygiene instruction, post-operative wound care, etc.Preparing and explaining various dental consent forms to patientsPerforming minimal dental receptionist duties as neededMeasuring patient vital signsA valid Dental Assistant Certification is preferredFollowing various directions or completing any other tasks as assigned or requested by dentists and/or Lead Dental AssistantShall work in collaboration with all dental staff and other JSU staff.Shall work with the Chief of Dental Officer to establish a monthly schedule of clinic days required.
