Job description
Deputy CommanderUnder the direction of a Commander, the Deputy Commander is responsible for a specific section and/or project within a designated geographical area or specialty unit. Assignments to division/section are assigned at the discretion of Chief of Police. A Deputy Commander may be appointed by the Chief of Police from internal or external applicants at the rank of Lieutenant or above. This is an unclassified at-will position. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing. Specific duties vary upon assignment.Prepares written and oral reports to superior officersCoordinates activities within assigned sectionReviews administrative reports and correspondenceCompletes personnel evaluationsProvides input related to budget needsAssists in preparing departing and administrative procedures for the sectionReviews and recommends personnel actionsMakes public presentationsAudits and monitors expendituresConducts section staff meetingsCoordinates activities with other units and agenciesComplies and reviews monthly activity reportsAssists in developing goals and objectives for the sectionCoordinates purchases and maintenance of equipment.Conducts property inventory for sectionFills in for the Commander during his/her absenceMinimum Education, Experience And Additional RequirementsMust be in good standing with your current agencyMust maintain sworn law enforcement officer certification, and remain capable of performing the functions of a Patrol Officer 1st Class, including the ability to affect a forceful arrestIn state applicants must be currently certified. Out of state applicants must be currently certified and their certification must be recognized and approved by the New Mexico Department of Public SafetyOut of state applicants must successfully complete a New Mexico Law Enforcement certification by waiver courseMust possess a valid driver's license (out-of-state applicants must obtain a valid New Mexico driver's license within 30 days of being hired)Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.BenefitsTotal Rewards.
