Training Position For Alachua County Sheriff's Office Deputy SheriffA training position involving attendance at a recognized law enforcement academy for the express purpose of becoming an Alachua County Sheriff's Office Deputy Sheriff. This position requires commitment, diligence, and initiative. Work is performed under the supervision of the Training Bureau Sergeants and the Judicial Services and Training Division Commander. Performance is evaluated through observation and grades obtained.Examples of duties include:Attend and successfully complete a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Basic Law Enforcement Certification coursePass the FDLE state certification examinationMeet all standards required for employment as an Alachua County Sheriff's Office Deputy SheriffTypical qualifications include:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:High School / GED - RequiredAssociate's Degree - PreferredBachelor's Degree - PreferredPreferred Major(s): Criminal Justice, Psychology, or other related fieldEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:NoneCERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:Current, valid Florida driver's licenseOTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must be 21 years of ageMust be a citizen of the United StatesMust qualify with one of the following residency requirements:Reside within the boundaries of Alachua CountyReside in one of the counties that are contiguous to Alachua County providing their residence is no further than twenty (20) minutes from the Alachua County line or one (1) hour from the main buildingMust be willing to enter into a pre-employment agreement regarding length of ACSO employmentPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Sit/stand for extended periods of timeSee/hear at a normal rangeSpeak, read, write, and understand English fluentlyAmbulate independentlyLift/carry 150 poundsPush/pull moderate to heavy loadsBend and squatManual dexterityDrive a vehiclePass ACSO's standard Physical Agility Test as requiredPass ACSO's Firearms and Defensive Tactics courses as requiredPass ACSO's various driving tests as requiredPass all other courses/training as mandated by ACSO and/or FCJSTCKnowledge, skills, and abilities include:Ability to learn material presented at the academyAbility to analyze problems quickly and effectivelyAbility to apply modern law enforcement principles/procedures to solve practical problemsAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to comprehend and follow instructions and ordersGood knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spellingWe offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees and part-time employees who work 20 hours or more a week.
