Substation Design Engineer

Progressive is partnering with a leading utility organization to hire an experienced Substation Design Engineer who wants to make a lasting impact on grid reliability, system modernization, and the delivery of safe, reliable power to customers.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-visibility utility projects involving substation design, protection and control systems, transformers, circuit breakers, and critical electrical infrastructure. You'll collaborate with talented engineering professionals while taking ownership of projects from concept through construction support.
What You’ll Do
Develop engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for electric substation projects.
Design and support improvements to critical utility infrastructure that enhance system reliability and capacity.
Prepare and maintain electrical design packages using AutoCAD and other engineering software.
Perform engineering calculations, technical analyses, and design reviews.
Support projects involving substations, transformers, circuit breakers, protection and control systems, and related electrical equipment.
Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, project management, and external stakeholders.
Develop bills of materials, cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation.
Participate in site visits, field assessments, design reviews, and construction support activities.
Ensure engineering deliverables meet safety, quality, regulatory, budget, and schedule requirements.
Identify opportunities for process improvements, innovation, and operational efficiencies.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
5+ years of utility design or engineering experience.
Hands-on substation design experience.
Proficiency with AutoCAD.
Strong understanding of electric utility infrastructure and engineering design practices.
Ideal Candidate

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
