JOB DESCRIPTION
nBHE GT&S has an exciting career opportunity for a Designer 1/2/Sr or Lead Designer (AutoCAD) at our Cove Point LNG facility located in Lusby, MD.
nRESPONSIBILITIES
nnnDesigns and produces engineering drawings for natural gas and liquified natural Gas, and auxiliary facilities.
n
nnProvides technical guidance to engineers and designers, ensuring drawing accuracy, consistency, and adherence to company drafting standards.
n
nnMaintains design consistency across the engineering team by applying established standards, best practices, and quality controls.
n
nnCollaborates with engineering and operations to optimize facility designs and ensure compliance with company specifications, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
n
nnMaintains and updates standard drawings, facility drawings, and company drafting libraries to support ongoing operations and project needs.
n
nnOperates independently as a self‑starter, completing assignments with minimal supervision while managing priorities effectively.
n
nnDevelops complete, timely, and accurate drawing packages for new, expanded, or modified facilities, supporting project objectives and construction schedules.
n
nnReviews drawings to verify compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed.
n
nnEvaluates design concepts and performs required engineering‑related calculations to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
n
nnManages drawing documentation by organizing and maintaining drawing files, indexes, revision histories, and digital records in accordance with company document‑control procedures.
n
nnCompletes site visits with engineering and operations teams to ensure drawing accuracy as needed.
n
n nQualifications & Skills:
nnnStrong understanding of process piping, engineering, and architectural principles

nnPrevious experience in a similar role

nnKnowledge of building codes and regulations

nnExcellent problem-solving skills

nnStrong attention to detail

nnAbility to work under tight deadlines

nnProficiency in AutoCAD software
n
nnStrong technical drawing skills

nnAbility to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

nnSolid understanding of design and construction processes

nnComputer literacy, especially with design and drafting software

nnStrong organizational skills
n
nnGood verbal and written communication skills
n
nnAttention to detail and accuracy

nnTime management skills to handle multiple tasks

n nQUALIFICATIONS
nDesigner 1:
n0-2 years of AutoCAD experience is required.
nDesigner 2:
nAt least 3 years of AutoCAD experience is required.
nSr. Designer:
nAt least 5 years of AutoCAD experience is required.
nLead Designer:
n7 or more years directly related experience.
nAll Levels:
nnnStrong AutoCAD experience
n
nnExperience with 3D modeling software
n
nnStrong math skills, including geometry, trigonometry, and higher mathematics.
n
nnDemonstrated knowledge of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering design drafting principles.
n
nnExcellent planning and organizational skills.
n
nnAbility to work independently.
n
nnAbility to size and design structural steel and reinforced concrete components.
n
nnStrong communication skills, and ability to develop rapport with internal and external customers.
n
n nLead Designer
nnnKnowledge of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering design drafting principles.
n
nnKnowledge of applicable regulations, related codes, and standards.
n
nnKnowledge of company design and operating standards.
n
nnAbility to
n
nnMaintain and update DOT class location maps,
n
nnPlan and schedule work independently,
n
nnLead and teach draftspersons.
n
nnAbility to size and design structural steel and reinforced concrete components.
n
nnAbility to complete designs for large and/or complex systems.
n
nnAbility to develop new applications within the AutoCAD and 3D Modeling systems.
n
nnStrong math skills, including geometry and trigonometry for complex calculations.
n
nnExcellent communication skills.
n
n nEducation
nAssociate (Typically two years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)
nExperience and professional certification in 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Plant 3D, Revit, or SolidWorks
nPreferred Degree
nDrafting Design, Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Drawing
