nWhat you'll do:

nThe Project Engineer – Detailer is responsible for producing accurate, complete, and technically compliant submittal packages for commercial door, frame, and architectural hardware projects. This role reviews contract documents, prepares opening schedules and hardware sets, coordinates product selections, processes revisions, and prepares approved projects for purchasing and fabrication. Working closely with Project Managers, Purchasing, Estimating, Vendors, Production, and Customers, the Project Engineer serves as the technical expert for commercial door, frame, and hardware detailing while ensuring projects are released accurately, on schedule, and in accordance with customer specifications and industry standards. Installation responsibilities are not included.

nProject Engineering & Technical Detailing

nnnReview architectural drawings, specifications, addenda, door schedules, hardware specifications, and awarded project scope

n

nnProduce accurate and professional commercial door, frame, and hardware submittal packages

n

nnPrepare opening schedules, hardware sets, product data sheets, door and frame elevations, and related technical documentation

n

nnVerify quantities, dimensions, handing, fire ratings, finishes, wall conditions, frame profiles, anchors, hardware functions, and special preparations

n

nnCoordinate compatibility between hollow-metal frames, hollow-metal doors, architectural wood doors, and commercial hardware

n

nnEnsure technical documentation complies with project requirements, applicable codes, and manufacturer recommendations

n

n nContract & Document Review

nnnReview construction documents to identify conflicts, missing information, substitutions, scope gaps, and potential cost impacts

n

nnPrepare Requests for Information (RFIs) and communicate technical questions to Project Managers and customers

n

nnProcess customer review comments and prepare revised submittals accurately and efficiently

n

nnMaintain organized document control and revision history throughout the project lifecycle

n

nnPerform thorough quality-control reviews before issuing submittals or releasing material

n

n nPurchasing & Production Support

nnnPrepare approved projects for purchasing and fabrication

n

nnReview vendor acknowledgments to ensure compliance with approved project requirements

n

nnCoordinate with Purchasing to ensure accurate material ordering

n

nnSupport Production by providing complete and accurate fabrication information

n

nnAssist Project Managers with technical documentation throughout project execution

n

nnMaintain accurate project, opening, door, frame, and hardware information within company systems

n

n nCross-Functional Collaboration

nnnPartner with Project Management, Estimating, Purchasing, Production, Vendors, and Operations teams to ensure successful project execution

n

nnCommunicate technical information clearly with internal departments and external project stakeholders

n

nnSupport continuous improvement initiatives focused on detailing accuracy, quality, and workflow efficiency

n

nnProvide technical guidance regarding products, specifications, and detailing requirements

n

nnPerform additional duties as assigned

n

nnAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field preferred

n

nnMinimum three years of detailing, project engineering, or submittal experience within the commercial doors, frames, and hardware industry

n

nnDemonstrated ability to prepare accurate, high-quality commercial submittals

n

nnStrong knowledge of hollow-metal frames, hollow-metal doors, architectural wood doors, and commercial hardware

n

nnAbility to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, door schedules, hardware sets, and manufacturer templates

n

nnUnderstanding of door handing, frame profiles, wall conditions, fire ratings, hardware preparations, and finish requirements

n

nnProficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam or similar PDF markup software

n

nnExperience with Comsense Advantage preferred

n

nnDHI training or industry certifications are highly desirable

n

nnKnowledge of electrified hardware, access control systems, automatic operators, ADA requirements, life-safety codes, and fire-door regulations preferred

n

nnPrimarily office-based environment

n

nnFrequent use of computers, construction documents, specifications, and drafting software

n

nnRegular collaboration with Project Managers, Purchasing, Vendors, Production, and Customers

n

nnAbility to sit for extended periods while reviewing drawings and preparing technical documentation

n

nnOccasional travel to customer meetings, manufacturing facilities, or project sites may be required

n

nnAbility to manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting customer deadlines

n
