Job description
Detention Officer IThe Detention Officer I is a jailer job for the Edmond Detention Center. Detention Officers book inmates into the Edmond Detention Center (requiring hands-on contact with inmates), check for drugs or weapons, physically restrain them as needed, and supervise their well-being. Duties also include cleaning, meal prepping, and other tasks as needed to care for inmates.Shifts are assigned by seniority and are 12-hours long (officers work 3 1/2 days a week). The department requires 24/7 operations, so this role includes working shifts with frequent overtime and shifts on holidays and weekends.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent12 to 18 months of related experience and/or training Or equivalent combination of education and experienceValid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrierResponsibilitiesMonitor inmate behavior and ensure their safety and securityProcess/release inmates from the Detention CenterAnswer telephone calls and take accurate messages for officersDispense personal and cell cleaning equipmentSearch inmates & cells for contraband itemsEnsure the care and maintenance of quartersWrite medical, incident, and/or activity report(s) on a daily basisComplete data entry into software systemFingerprint citizens and employees per requestParticipate in required job-related trainingNecessary SkillsAbility to meet the required physical standards for this positionAbility to pass extensive background process including a polygraph and interview with the Chief of PoliceAbility to pass pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screeningsBenefitsGenerous benefits package including health, vision, and dental insuranceRetirement plansAccess to a dedicated primary care medical clinic at no cost to employees and covered dependentsSick leave, vacation days, earned time off, paid holidays, and longevity rewardsPaid parental leavePotential for bilingual payA tangible impact to the Police Department, Detention Center, and residents in the City of EdmondA dynamic and inclusive environment where your contributions are valuedAPPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL POSITION IS FILLED.
