Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff teams provide support throughout our many specialty departments and centers, from primary visits to emergency care.
We are looking for a Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (Dietitian or Nurse) who will provide diabetes education to patients and their families in an inpatient setting. The educator completes comprehensive diabetes assessments for each patient including emotional and behavioral health, interprets personal health data, develops an individualized care plan based on the patient's assessed needs and goals and promotes successful self-management. They will also be responsible for the implementation of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Diabetes Education Program, including intensive diabetes management with insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose meters and other new technologies. The educator will collaborate with a dynamic and dedicated group of physicians, advanced practice providers, social workers and other staff to establish diabetes management plans and ensure continuity of care.

Location: Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore, MD
Hours: Full time (40 hours), Day Shift, Weekdays
What You'll Need to be Successful:
A Bachelor's degree in Dietetics or Nursing
Current license or registration in specific allied health profession (e.g. Registered Dietician, Registered Nurse required. Must obtain Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) within 1 year of employment.
Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis, and basic disease processes. Analytical ability required to gather data, decide on conformity based on predetermined criteria, identify problems and refer for resolution. Basic knowledge of medical records coding standards. Awareness of licensing and accreditation standards. Knowledge of MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of relational EMR data documentation, ability to conduct research of issue at hand, as well as formulate recommendations based on findings
Minimum of 2 years' experience in allied health profession and 2 years' experience as CDCES preferred.

Salary Range: Minimum 34.62/hour - Maximum 57.19/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
