About the Opportunity
AutoShop Recruiting is partnering with one of our clients in the Hamburg, NJ area to hire a top-level Diagnostic Automotive Technician / A-Level Mechanic. This is a well-run, growth-minded independent repair operation with strong leadership, steady workflow, professional service advisors, a training-focused culture, and real opportunity for technicians who want to grow.
This is not a "stand around and wait for gravy" shop. The right technician will be confident with diagnostics, heavy repair, inspections, estimating, and customer-pay production. If you are a strong technician who wants a Monday-Friday schedule, real training, high earning potential, and a culture built around long-term growth, this is worth a conversation.
What You'll Do
Diagnose drivability, electrical, check-engine-light, engine performance, mechanical, and heavy repair concerns
Perform full vehicle health assessments / MPIs with complete notes and estimates
Use scan tools, testing procedures, and repair information to verify failures instead of guessing
Perform high-quality repairs across domestic, Asian/import, and selected European vehicles
Work on customer-pay repair and maintenance work in a professional flat-rate environment
Collaborate closely with seasoned service advisors and communicate findings clearly
Maintain productivity while protecting quality, safety, and comeback prevention
Participate in a culture where downtime is used for cleaning, training, and improving

Proven automotive technician experience with strong diagnostic and mechanical ability

Ability to inspect vehicles thoroughly and build/write accurate estimates
Experience with heavier repair, suspension, engine-compartment work, brakes, maintenance, diagnostics, tires, and alignments
Strong tool investment, professional habits, and pride in workmanship
Growth-minded attitude and willingness to train, learn, and develop into more responsibility over time
ASE certifications are a strong plus; continued ASE/training growth is encouraged
Valid driver's license
Shop Environment
Professional independent repair operation in the Hamburg, NJ area
Two-building operation with a traditional repair shop and a fleet/truck center
Approximately 95 vehicles per week, with volume pushing toward 125

Shop-Ware management system
Top performers are regularly flagging 60-70 hours in a 40-hour week
Fair flat-rate model designed to support estimate-writing and full vehicle inspections
No Land Rover, Jaguar, exotics, heavy modification, deletes, or vintage restoration work
