Job description
The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
nnJOB SUMMARY :
nnProvides direct patient care in a dialysis setting and supports licensed staff in the delivery of patient care within UTMB Correctional Managed Care.n nESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : nnAssists in the medical evaluation of the patient pre-dialysis, including assisting with recording of patients vital signs, weight, general condition and special problems.
nCorrectly sets-up and operates dialysis equipment. Reports equipment problems to the Unit Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor, Charge Nurse Chief Technician or Hemodialysis Staff Nurse.
nPerforms preventive maintenance and quality control.
nCorrectly documents and troubleshoots on the EMR.
nMakes safety checks on equipment and initiates ad terminates the hemodialysis treatment.
nAssists in obtaining all lab work and tests ordered by the Nephrologist; assists in preparing monthly lag tubes for patients.
nMonitors patients during hemodialysis treatments, including the taking of patient vital signs, and informs licensed staff of any potential problems.
nResponds quickly and efficiently to emergencies.
nCleans machines, chairs and room after each patient and cleans the dialysis jugs at the end of the shift.
nAdministers only lidocaine subcutaneously, heparin sodium and normal saline intravenously within the regulations of DSHS.
nParticipates in the education of the patient.
nProvides basic care for and has knowledge of the use of the hemodialysis access.
nStocks unit as needed or directed.
nCares for and uses patient access sites as instructed.
nAdheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
nPerforms related duties as required.
n nEQUIPMENT : n nArtificial kidney and dialysis delivery systems. Standard laboratory testing and sterilizing devices.n nWORK ENVIRONMENT : n nLocated within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
