Diesel MechanicAbacus is looking to hire a diesel mechanic in the Beltsville, MD area.Your Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical excellence: Diagnose and repair engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.Independence: Troubleshoot issues independently, often with minimal diagnostic tools.Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, brake inspections, and fluid checks.Compliance: Ensure DOT compliance with thorough inspections and accurate documentation.Response: Respond quickly to driver-reported issues to minimize downtime.Heavy repair: Perform or assist with engine rebuilds and dumpster repairs (including welding).Leadership track: Collaborate with ownership to improve maintenance workflows and safety protocols.What We're Looking ForExperience: 5+ years of diesel maintenance experience (technical school training is a plus).Skills: Strong understanding of hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, and engine diagnostics.Tools: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.Licensing: Valid driver's license and medical card required; CDL is a plus.Physical: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in all weather conditions, and stand for long periods.Mindset: A "lead-by-example" attitude with a desire to transition into management.ScheduleTypical week: 45–50 hours per week (overtime pay included).Availability: Includes some weekends and travel; on-call for emergency maintenance needs.BenefitsComprehensive benefits: Paid holidays, PTO, healthcare, 401(k), and a PPE allowance.Growth opportunities: We are looking for more than a technician; we are looking for a future Fleet Manager.
