Job description
Direct Care Worker (DCW)Direct Care Workers assist clients with daily activities, promote independence, and ensure their safety and well-being. They often work closely with healthcare professionals, families, and social service teams.Key responsibilities include:Assist with personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting)Help with mobility and transfers (lifting, walking, wheelchair use)Prepare meals and assist with feedingPerform light housekeeping (laundry, cleaning, organizing)Administer or remind clients to take medications (depending on certification and state rules)Provide companionship and emotional supportMonitor and report changes in health or behaviorSupport clients in community activities (appointments, errands, social outings)Maintain accurate documentation and daily logsRequired skills and qualifications include:High school diploma or GED (often required)Certification such as CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Home Health Aide (HHA) (varies by employer/state)Basic knowledge of first aid and CPRStrong communication and interpersonal skillsPatience, empathy, and reliabilityPhysical ability to lift and assist clientsWork environment includes:Private homesAssisted living facilitiesGroup homesDay programs or community centersSchedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
