Reports to: Head of Origination / Executive Leadership
Pravati Capital is a leading provider of litigation finance solutions, offering singlecase funding, portfolio facilities, and other capital structures designed for law firms and case originators. We are seeking a business development leader with litigation finance experience to drive origination of funding transactions and build deep relationships with trial lawyers, litigation boutiques, and other case originators.
Role Summary
The Director, Business Development & Origination will be responsible for sourcing, qualifying, and advancing litigation funding opportunities, including single-case financings and law firm portfolio facilities, as well as identifying select strategic M&A, investment, and partnership opportunities involving law firms and adjacent legal-services businesses. This is a front-end, externally facing role focused on pipeline creation, relationship building, commercial framing, and transaction development in partnership with Pravati’s underwriting, investment, and executive teams.
Core Responsibilities
Deal sourcing and market mapping
Systematically identify law firms and case originators, including contingencyfee boutiques and litigation practices, that fit Pravati’s strategy for litigation funding relationships and portfolio deals (practice mix, geography, case profile, economics).
Build and maintain a proprietary pipeline of litigation funding opportunities through direct outreach, referrals, conference networking, intermediaries, and existing litigation finance relationships.
Firm and partner outreach
Originate conversations with managing partners, founders, and key stakeholders; position Pravati’s value proposition (growth capital, casecost funding, cashflow stabilization, and enhanced partner liquidity).
Frame funding options (singlecase, portfolio, working capital structures, fee acceleration) in clear commercial terms that resonate with trial lawyers and litigators.
Litigation funding origination (singlecase and portfolio deals)
Own endtoend business development for litigation funding opportunities, from initial outreach through underwriting handoff.
Qualify opportunities by evaluating case merits at a high level, portfolio composition, firm track record, and capital needs, in partnership with underwriting.
Coordinate with underwriting and investment teams to present financing proposals that address firmspecific pain points (case costs, cashflow volatility, partner distributions).
Qualification and deal advancement
Perform highlevel commercial profiling of funding prospects: practice focus, case pipeline or portfolio composition, economics, leadership dynamics, and fit with Pravati’s strategy.
Advance qualified litigation funding opportunities through underwriting gates (case or portfolio review, term sheet, funding agreement) while maintaining strong sponsor relationships.
Market intelligence and reporting
Track competitive activity and private capital trends in the litigation finance sector; provide feedback that refines target criteria and product positioning.
Own origination KPIs: outreach volume, qualified opportunities added, progression through stages, capital deployed into funded matters, and closed transactions attributable to your efforts.
Strategic M&A and transaction sourcing
Identify and develop relationships with law firms, legal-services businesses, and other potential strategic partners that may represent acquisition, minority-investment, joint-venture, succession-planning, or other strategic transaction opportunities.
Build and maintain a proprietary M&A and strategic-transactions pipeline through direct outreach, industry relationships, referral sources, intermediaries, conference activity, and market intelligence.
Ideal Candidate
5–10+ years in one or more of: litigation finance origination, PE/search fund deal sourcing, or business development in legal/professional services.
Demonstrated track record of sourcing and advancing relationshipdriven deals with founders, partners, or principalowned businesses.
Strong understanding of litigation finance products and law firm economics; able to translate financial structures into simple, practical language.
Highly relational, persuasive communicator with the gravitas to engage senior lawyers and firm leadership.
Comfortable in a buildphase environment with minimal bureaucracy; selfdirected, metricsdriven, and resilient.
Experience sourcing, evaluating, or advancing M&A, private-equity, strategic-investment, or corporate-development opportunities is strongly preferred, particularly in professional services, legal services, financial services, or other founder-led businesses.
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; JD, MBA, or other relevant advanced degree preferred but not mandatory where experience is compelling.
