Position Summary

The Indiana University Maurer School of Law is seeking an outstanding lateral candidate to join our faculty as a tenured professor of law and to serve in the role of Director of the Center for Intellectual Property Research. Founded in 2009, the Center oversees the law school’s intellectual property curriculum and programming, its co-curricular activities, its scholarly research in intellectual property and related areas, and its outreach to the practicing bar. The law school’s curriculum includes numerous upper-level courses in intellectual property law and adjacent areas such as information policy, health law, AI and the law, and other aspects of law and technology, which are taught by both full-time and adjunct members of the law school’s faculty. The Law School seeks a Director who will oversee the Center’s scholarly mission, coordinating scholarly symposia, visits of distinguished speakers, and similar activities. The Director also oversees the law school’s intellectual property pro bono activities, including, in conjunction with the Intellectual Property Clinic director, the management of the Intellectual Property Clinic and the PatentConnect pro bono patent hub program, pursuant to a partnership agreement with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The Director works closely with the law school’s Career Services Office to coordinate career-related presentations as well as the Office of Admissions to coordinate programming for prospective law students who may have an interest in intellectual property law, particularly prospective students who are enrolled in science or engineering degree programs. The Director has supervisory responsibility for staff personnel of the Center.
