Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer and working in close partnership with the CEO and C-Suite, the Director will hold direct responsibility for a portfolio of funders, lead proposal and stewardship work, and coordinate with organizational leaders on funder relationships stewarded at the executive level.

Lead a portfolio of direct funder relationships and support executive leadership in stewarding key institutional partnerships

Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer to reach annual institutional fundraising goals and engage board members in institutional giving opportunities

Proposals, Reporting, and Stewardship

Lead the development of compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, white papers, and reports across the full portfolio

Coordinate the reporting process for all non-individual funders, including federation grants, large institutional foundations, and family foundations

Bi-annually draft or update ready-to-deploy one-pagers on the agency’s key areas of work for use in funder communications

Serve as a strategic partner to program leaders, helping translate organizational priorities into fundable opportunities

Collaborate with program, marketing, data, and finance colleagues to gather impact data, build budgets, and ensure all materials reflect the agency’s current priorities

Systems, Infrastructure, and Team

Develop and maintain a robust institutional giving pipeline through prospect research, opportunity identification, and customized cultivation strategies

Own the master calendar of submission deadlines, grant deliverables, and reporting milestones, ensuring all commitments are met with excellence

Establish and reinforce standards of excellence in IG processes, deliverables, and measurement systems

Supervise the Institutional Giving Manager, providing mentorship and day-to-day guidance

Work collaboratively with the broader Advancement team, which is focused on major individual gifts, to ensure coordinated funder strategies and a unified case for support

Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer on strategy development for both short- and long-term institutional giving goals

Experience, Qualifications, and Competencies

10+ years of progressively responsible experience in institutional giving, foundation relations, or development in a nonprofit environment

Demonstrated track record of securing five- and six-figure grants from private, family, and/or federated foundations

Experience both holding direct funder relationships and supporting C-suite principals in their funder relationships

Exceptional writer and editor; able to translate complex programmatic work into compelling, funder-facing narratives

Strong project management skills with a track record of managing multiple deadlines and priorities with precision

Experience supervising or mentoring junior development staff

Proficiency with CRM/grants management platforms (eg: Salesforce) and Microsoft Office
