The Director will serve as the Controller’s principal operating partner and work closely with the CFO, FP&A, Operations, Treasury, Legal, Tax, Corporate Development, and other functional leaders. The successful candidate will be a technically strong, hands-on leader who can resolve complex accounting issues while strengthening the people, processes, systems, and controls required to support a growing, multi-entity healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Close and Reporting

Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring financial results are timely, accurate, complete, and appropriately supported.

Manage the close calendar and coordinate accounting activities and dependencies across the organization.

Review significant journal entries, accruals, estimates, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

Maintain balance-sheet integrity by ensuring material accounts are reconciled and reconciling items are investigated and resolved promptly.

Perform analytical reviews of financial results, including significant income

statements and balance-sheet fluctuations.

Ensure appropriate allocation, cutoff, classification, and application of accrual-accounting principles.

Support the preparation and review of financial statements and related reporting.

Improve close speed, consistency, and reliability through standardization, automation, stronger systems, and effective controls.

Consolidation and Complex Accounting

Oversee accounting and consolidation for the company’s legal entities, joint ventures, and other complex ownership arrangements.

Lead intercompany reconciliations, eliminations, and consolidation entries.

Ensure appropriate accounting for investments, noncontrolling interests, equity-method investments, distributions, capital contributions, and other ownership transactions.

Evaluate new and amended joint venture arrangements and document the appropriate accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP.

Research, evaluate, and document conclusions for complex, unusual, or judgmental transactions.

Prepare or review technical accounting memoranda, policies, and other supporting documentation.

Monitor new accounting standards and coordinate implementation of applicable guidance.

Provide technical oversight in areas including ASC 805, ASC 810, ASC 842, ASC 606, goodwill and intangible assets, contingencies, related-party transactions, and other healthcare-specific matters.

Escalate material or highly judgmental matters to the Controller and/or CFO with a clear, well-supported recommendation.

Acquisitions and Integration

Coordinate with Corporate Development, FP&A, Legal, Tax, operational leaders, and external advisers.

Own the accounting workstream for acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions from diligence through post-close integration.

Prepare or review purchase-accounting analyses, acquisition entries, goodwill and intangible-asset calculations, and related support including purchase accounting, working capital, opening balance sheets, and post-close reporting

Integrate acquired entities into the company’s close, consolidation, reporting, reconciliation, and internal control processes.

Ensure transaction-related accounting conclusions are appropriately documented and audit-ready.

Controls, Audit, and Process Improvement

Maintain a scalable internal control environment with clear ownership, review, approval, and documentation standards.

Identify accounting, reporting, and control risks and implement timely remediation plans.

Develop and maintain consistent accounting policies, procedures, and practices across entities and business units.

Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for external auditors and coordinate accurate, timely, and audit-ready support.

Respond to audit inquiries and drive the resolution of identified accounting matters.

Improve the use of ERP, consolidation, account-reconciliation, lease-accounting, and financial-reporting technologies.

Reduce manual processes and establish meaningful metrics for close performance, reconciliation quality, and control execution.

Leadership and Partnership

Lead, coach, and develop accounting managers, senior accountants, and other accounting team members.

Establish clear expectations for deadlines, account ownership, reconciliation quality, documentation, controls, and reporting accuracy.

Hold team members and cross-functional stakeholders accountable for agreed-upon deliverables.

Build technical capability, cross-training, organizational depth, and succession within the accounting team.

Represent Accounting in cross-functional meetings and communicate complex accounting matters clearly to financial and nonfinancial stakeholders.

Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Provide leadership continuity and decision-making support when the Controller is unavailable.

Relationship with the Controller

The Director will own the day-to-day operation of the accounting function, including the close, consolidation, balance-sheet reconciliations, joint venture and lease accounting, preparation of technical analyses, acquisition integration, audit coordination, control execution, process improvement, and team supervision.

The Controller will retain final accountability for the company’s financial statements, approval of material accounting judgments, auditor governance, senior-level accounting communications, organization design, and enterprise financial governance.

The Director is expected to operate independently, identify risks early, develop well-supported recommendations, and elevate matters based on materiality, complexity, and potential business impact.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree, preferrable in Accounting or related field.

CPA certification strongly preferred.

At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for close, financial reporting, and technical accounting in a complex organization.

Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated ability to research, document, and resolve complex accounting matters.

Experience with multi-entity accounting, consolidations, intercompany accounting, balance-sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Experience leading a complex monthly close and improving accounting processes, controls, systems, or close performance.

Experience managing and developing accounting professionals.

Strong analytical, organizational, project-management, and communication skills.

Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growing, and evolving organization.

Preferred

Experience in a multi-site, private equity-backed healthcare-services organization.

Experience with physician practices, MSOs, joint ventures, or complex healthcare revenue arrangements.

Experience with acquisition accounting and integration, including ASC 805.

Experience applying ASC 810 and ASC 842.

Public accounting experience and direct responsibility for external audit support.

Experience improving accounting and financial-reporting technologies.

Measures of Success

Success in this role means the company consistently delivers a timely, accurate, well-controlled, and audit-ready close; material balance-sheet accounts are clean and supported; complex accounting matters are identified and resolved proactively; acquired entities are effectively integrated; and accounting processes become more standardized, automated, and scalable.

The Director will also strengthen accountability and technical capability across the accounting team, enabling the Controller to devote greater attention to strategic accounting matters, transactions, organizational leadership, and senior-level business partnership.
