Job description
Most accounting leadership roles stop at the close. This one follows the numbers all the way from the field to the finished product.
We're partnering with a vertically integrated agriculture and food business that farms, harvests, cools, processes, and manufactures its own product. They're hiring a Director of Accounting Operations to own the financials across every stage of that chain, and to turn them into insight the operations team actually uses.
This is a hands‑on leadership seat for someone who knows that a bad yield assumption or an outdated BOM shows up in the margin, and who wants to get into the operation to find out why.
What you’ll own
The monthly, quarterly, and annual close across farming, harvesting, foods, and grower accounting
Cost accounting end to end: standard costs, product costing, BOM governance, and allocation methods across field and plant operations
Inventory accounting and controls, including agricultural inventories, crops in the ground, and realized crop costs
Monthly variance analysis on yield, labor, materials, overhead absorption, scrap, and throughput, with root causes and fixes, not just numbers
Business unit reporting and profitability analysis by commodity, product, customer, field, and facility
Budgeting, forecasting, capex planning, and investment cases for automation and new products, working closely with the CFO and executive team
ERP, reporting automation, and internal control improvements
Leading and developing the accounting team
What you bring
10+ years in accounting or finance in agriculture, food production, or manufacturing, with agricultural experience strongly preferred
Real depth in standard costing, BOMs, inventory valuation, manufacturing variances, close, and audit support
Strong GAAP and internal controls knowledge
The ability to explain a variance to a farming or plant leader in plain English
Strong ERP and Excel skills, with ERP implementation or reporting automation experience a plus
Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, CMA, MBA, or Master's preferred
