Job description

Director of Accounting & Reporting | Up to $175,000 + Bonus Potential | Expanding, Multi-State Organization! Location: Greater Tampa Bay | Hybrid | Relocation Candidates Welcome! We are seeking a technically strong accounting professional to step into a highly visible Director of Accounting & Reporting role with a growing, multi-state insurance organization. The company has expanded steadily since its founding and continues to broaden its footprint while investing in the people who support that growth. This is a role built for someone who genuinely enjoys the technical side of accounting, where precision, regulatory fluency, and clean reporting are valued rather than rushed past. The environment is focused and professional, with a team that takes pride in accuracy and quality work products. The Director of Accounting & Reporting will own meaningful pieces of the close, reporting, and compliance cycle rather than sitting on the periphery of them, and will serve as a trusted second set of hands to senior accounting leadership. For a candidate who wants exposure across statutory and GAAP reporting, audit, internal controls, and treasury in a single seat, this position offers unusual breadth and a clear path to greater responsibility. Successful completion of background, drug, and reference checks required!

Responsibilities

Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles from preparation through completion

Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers

Deliver both statutory and GAAP-basis reporting accurately and on schedule

Assemble quarterly and annual regulatory statements and related filing packages

Build and analyze financial statements, management reporting, and variance commentary

Ensure general ledger and sub-ledger activity is complete, accurate, and properly supported

Maintain compliance with statutory accounting principles, GAAP, and applicable regulatory guidance

Document and strengthen internal controls while identifying process improvements

Coordinate internal and external audits, including schedules and auditor inquiries

Partner with cross-functional teams on reserving, premium recognition, and expense allocation

Contribute to budgeting and forecasting cycles with clear, data-backed variance explanations

Support treasury activity, including cash management and bank reconciliations

Requirements

Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance required

CPA strongly preferred 5+ years of progressive accounting experience

Prior statutory accounting & reporting experience within the property & casualty insurance industry required

Strong command of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and internal control frameworks

Proficiency with a mid-to-large-scale ERP or cloud accounting platform

Advanced Excel skills; experience with data analysis or reporting tools is a plus

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving ability

Detail-oriented approach with a clear focus on accuracy and compliance

Comfort operating in a deadline-driven reporting environment

Why You’ll Love Working Here

Direct exposure to senior leadership and genuine influence over process

Notably low turnover and a stable, long-tenured team

A focused, professional culture that rewards technical depth and accuracy

A growing multi-state platform with expanding responsibility over time
