Director – Defence & Security Business Development - US
Location flexibility: While this vacancy is advertised against the Washington DC–Baltimore area, we welcome applications from candidates based across our key target locations, including Maryland/Washington DC, Huntsville (Alabama), Texas & Southern California .
Location & Travel: The role can be based within one of our key US target regions, with travel as required.
Solid State Group is seeking an accomplished Defence & Security business development leader to establish and accelerate our growth across this strategically important market.
This is a high-impact opportunity to build market presence rather than simply inherit an existing portfolio. Working across the Group, you will define priority markets and strategic accounts, develop senior relationships across the defence ecosystem and create a sustainable pipeline of significant opportunities.
Initially operating as a senior individual contributor, you will lead from the front – personally driving market development, strategic account penetration and opportunity creation. As the market develops, you will also help shape the strategy and business case for a future dedicated Defence & Security business development organisation.
The opportunity
You will:
Define and execute the Group's Defence & Security growth strategy
Develop senior relationships with defence primes, systems integrators, government and military organisations
Identify emerging programmes, mission requirements and strategic market opportunities
Lead significant opportunities from identification and capture through to negotiation and contract award
Bring together capabilities from across the Group to create differentiated customer solutions
Develop strategic partnerships and strengthen Solid State Group's position within the Defence & Security ecosystem
Provide market insight that influences future investment, portfolio development and growth strategy
About you
You will bring significant senior-level business development, capture, strategic account or market development experience gained within Defence, Security, Aerospace or a closely related technology environment.
You will have a demonstrable track record of creating and securing complex new business, credibility with senior industry and customer stakeholders, strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate sophisticated technical capabilities into compelling customer propositions.
Established relationships across the Defence & Security community and experience building a new market, business segment or vertical would be particularly valuable.
