Role Summary

The Director of Marketing & Business Development (EM) is a key leader responsible for driving Materion’s strategic growth in the Semiconductor sector. This role shapes market strategy, expands our served available market (SAM), and accelerates new product and application development. The Director serves as Materion’s external ambassador across the semiconductor ecosystem—engaging with customers, OEMs, industry bodies, and technology partners—while ensuring internal alignment across Commercial, Technology & Innovation (T&I), Product Management, Operations, and Executive Leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Market Strategy & Insights

Develop a deep understanding of semiconductor market dynamics, from end‑market trends to customer‑specific needs.

Monitor emerging technologies, competitive activity, and industry developments, converting insights into actionable strategy.

Maintain clear, structured segment reporting, including TAM/SAM definitions and wallet share analysis.

Partner with Sales and Product Management to translate customer feedback into meaningful market intelligence.

Represent Materion at key industry events and associations (e.g., SEMI), strengthening brand visibility and thought leadership.

Collaborate with Communications to advance Materion’s external presence, including press, digital content, and speaking engagements.

Provide regular executive‑level updates on market conditions, competitive environment, and strategic implications.

Business Development & Growth Execution

Identify, evaluate, and drive new strategic opportunities in electronic materials—including new materials, deposition technologies, and emerging semiconductor applications.

Serve as the primary interface with OEMs, research institutes, and technology partners to understand future needs and co‑innovate solutions.

Lead early‑stage development programs, including customer engagement, business case creation, and project oversight.

Build and nurture multi‑level relationships across key customer organizations, ensuring coordinated engagement and long‑term partnership strength.

Translate customer and OEM specifications into manufacturable products, partnering closely with T&I, Product Management, Operations, and Procurement.

Support early product qualification stages, guide technical discussions, and oversee application‑specific testing.

Provide senior technical leadership for product performance requirements, customer inquiries, and material tailoring.

Drive internal alignment and cross‑functional execution to ensure timely readiness, launch, and scale‑up of new products.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related fields).

10+ years of experience in semiconductor materials, thin‑film deposition, advanced packaging, or adjacent semiconductor technology markets.

Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives in strategy, business development, key account management, and new product introduction (NPI).

Strong analytical, communication, and executive‑level presentation skills.

Demonstrated experience building multi‑level customer relationships and developing market‑driven technology roadmaps.
