Job Description

DIRECTOR OF MEDIATION| Health Care Division - ( MM )

Attention applicants: Do not apply for this position via the MassCareers website. Your application will not be received.

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated Director of Mediation to join the Health Care Division within the Health Care & Fair Competition Bureau. The Health Care Division promotes health care access, affordability, and equity, including by enforcing the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act (M.G.L. c. 93A) and other Massachusetts laws protecting health care consumers. Recent litigation matters brought by the Division have involved drug pricing, the opioid crisis, marketing by health care providers and insurers, and challenges to federal actions that harm the Commonwealth and its residents.

The Mediation Unit sits within the Health Care Division and consists of mediators and a Director of Mediation. The Mediation Unit receives thousands of complaints every year about health care providers, insurance companies, and other entities in the health care sector. Mediators engage directly with certain complainants and the subjects of complaints to provide information, make referrals, and seek to resolve complaints through an informal mediation process.

Primary Duties

The Director of Mediation will mediate complaints and help manage the activities of the mediation unit, including assisting mediators, managing mediation workflows, responding to constituent inquiries, and assisting the Division Chief in performance planning for those in the Mediation Unit. The Director will also work closely with the Division’s Chief and Deputy Chief on Mediation Unit operations, including policies, procedures, training materials, templates, and reporting relating to consumer complaint data.

The Director of Mediation will have an opportunity to work with other AGO Divisions and government agencies and participate in community engagement.
