Job description

We are searching for a Director of Electrical Engineering, Power Delivery, to lead our expanding team of energy professionals, with a focus on substation and transmission engineering. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of related experience and supports the Power Services program for clients across the United States. Projects will span multiple markets and geographies, offering broad opportunities to expand knowledge and deepen expertise in design projects. We are seeking a self-starter who can work independently and contribute strategically to the success of the team and projects. As the Director, you will provide strategic leadership for the Power Delivery engineering team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. You’ll develop and implement processes to enhance team performance, project efficiency, and client satisfaction. Building and maintaining strong client relationships will be key, as you’ll foster trust and identify opportunities for business growth.

You will lead and oversee the engineering and design of electric transmission, distribution, and substation projects, providing technical direction and strategic oversight across a diverse portfolio of power delivery infrastructure. Project types include greenfield and brownfield substation developments, transmission line routing and rebuilds, distribution system upgrades, interconnection facilities, renewable generation facilities and tie-ins, grid modernization initiatives, and system hardening/resiliency programs. You will be responsible for supervising multidisciplinary engineering teams in the development of physical layouts, transmission line routing, and detailed electrical design for systems ranging from low voltage (LV) distribution through extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission (including 4 kV through 500 kV and above, as applicable). This includes oversight of:

Substation site development and physical equipment arrangement/layout

One-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and protection & control schematics

Relay protection philosophies and settings coordination

Grounding system design and lightning protection

Insulation coordination and equipment specification

Transmission line structure spotting, conductor selection, and thermal rating studies

Cable routing, raceway design, and duct bank layouts

SCADA integration and communication system interfaces

You will ensure that engineering deliverables meet utility standards, NERC/FERC requirements, IEEE/ANSI codes, and client-specific design criteria while maintaining constructability, reliability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness.

Additionally, you will manage project scoping, cost estimating, and proposal development, and be responsible for mentoring the engineering team to drive technical growth and innovation. Collaborating with project managers and multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure successful project execution, meeting budget, schedule, and quality requirements. You’ll also review engineering deliverables to ensure they meet industry and client standards. Representing Pond at client meetings, job sites, and industry conferences will be part of your role, along with supporting multiple concurrent projects while fostering collaboration and team efficiency.
